While they seem to be much better than the diesel variant, that may be down to volume sold...

Fair enough, didn't think of that, was really thinking of the diesel variants! But good call Thumbs Up 1992 RR Classic 3.9 efi Vogue

United Kingdom 2017 Range Rover Vogue TDV6 Corris Grey

The problem is when the Ingenium is mounted transversely in the Disco Sport / Evoque. There isn't enough room to mount the DPF where it needs to be, i.e. right on the exhaust manifold.

So it doesn't work as well, and hence the oil dilution.

Not a problem on 'proper' vehicles, like Range Rover and Jaguar.

Chris.

Sorry Chris, but for the record, the latter comment is simply incorrect: JLR have consistently mounted vehicle DPF’s too far downstream of the exhaust manifold in several vehicles, including the L494 and L405 as well as the smaller siblings you mentioned. Dilution can be a problem in any diesel JLR product.
However, I would say that the dilution algorithm can often overestimate dilution level. Based on testing oil samples in my own TDV6, dilution increases about 1% per 2500 miles mostly urban driving. I tend to change oil at this interval, since it coincides with 6months of driving for me. One caveat is that I monitor regens in almost an OCD way and rarely have an aborted regen. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Westminster TDV8 Ipanema Sand

Remember reading that the cat problems wre worse where the engine was transversely mounted which forced the positioning further down the exhaust.
A friend has a D5 with the straight six engine has experienced (amongst other issues! ) failure of the alternator drive belt which doubles up as the hybrid power source drive. I believe that this is a poor elm across all ingenum powered cars.
Unfortunately it is not just JLR who has problems designing a reliable engine ….look no further then the Ford eco boom! A wet belt engine where the timing belt runs inside the engine sump and breaks down with the oil which often leads to premature failure. Replacement is also expensive circa £1,000 +. 2012 tdv8 Westminster arrived Jan 19 gone Dec 23

I’m probably not going to be popular with this - but i would (and did) avoid anything with an Ignium engine in it - I went for the last of the V8 Diesels and would do exactly the same again - I’m on my 3rd V8 Diesel and everyone has been faultless - absolutely no chance repeating that reliability record with any Igniboom engine.

If I couldn’t have bought an SDV8, it would have been
A 5.0 petrol - it’s as simple as that 👍🏻😃

Feel the same if I was to change it would be the 4.4 BMW Engine or the supercharged V8. overfinch modified
