L460 Winter tyres

In the past and on other non-RR vehicles, I've just swapped tyres rather than wheels and tyres from summer to winter wheels.

The options for 22 inch winter tyres seems very limited. What do others please do?

I know that it's on all-season tyres, but these don't have the necessary rating for parts of Europe and I don't fancy fitting chains if needed in anger.

Thanks in advance for comments.

Hi, I bought a set of Nokian Hakkapeliitta R5 SUV 285/45R22 114T XL for the delivered 22" wheels, and this is now our winter wheel set for the L460. Happy with these!

For the summer wheels, I bought the Style 1075 - Diamond Turned 23" wheels and bought new Pirelli Scorpion tyres for these. L460 P550e AB SWB MY24

I've just fitted on my L405 some continental cross contact cross winter 275/40/R 22" for £316 per tyre from e-tyres. It was then fitted at one of their franchisees local to me (My local tyre man quoted £380!!)

Be aware very few hold any stock of winter tyres (or even sell them) due to lack of demand. Apparently mine came down from Scotland!!

Thanks both.

Yes, I've noticed stock is non existent at this size.

Is there a key reason to get separate wheels & tyres, rather than just change the tyres?

Leaving aside the greater cost of having different tyres fitted and the wheels balanced twice a year, the main problem is that every change involves wear to the wheel rim and tyre, the wheel edges lose their paint/lacquer and corrode and look a bit scruffy and one can get slow punctures from the tyres not seating well enough on the rims and eventually the tyre beads can split. Only Range Rovers since 1988

I'm not sure what the standard 22" tyre is for the L460, but I've been running Conti Winters in 275/40/22 for 10 years on my L405 and had no problems at all. I live in a ski resort and never had to fit my snow chains.

I run 2 sets of wheels as I just find it easier to swap them over myself rather than twice a year to the trye fitters.

285/45/22 is standard, but there aren't many winter tyres readily available.

If I go for wheels, I'm going to try and reduce size to 21 or 20, but have heard this isn't straightforward either!

Looks like Pirelli Scorpion Winter is the recommended one - for Alpine conditions

I was lucky - I needed new tyres anyway & found some dealer 'takeoff' wheels with new tyres. Then used my existing wheels for the winter tyres.

ownerinfo.landrover.com has a list of the LR homologated winter tyres, as stated above Pirelli Scorpion Winter is the 22" recommended tyre for alpine conditions (there are various studded tyres but I believe these are not permitted on public roads in the UK). Only Range Rovers since 1988

Thanks all.

This is super helpful information, particularly for a newcomer to RR.

Nokian Hakkapeliitta R5 SUV won a winter tyre test for un-studded nordic winter tyres recently. But these are made for more extreme (Nordic) winter conditions . L460 P550e AB SWB MY24
