It is looking like we will not get our car back. So what do we get as a replacement? Do we go euro 6 or 5, also do we go 3.0 again or 4.4 . Also what spec, Vogue , se or ab?

Euro 6 3.0. SE. A lot of talk about failures with the 3.0 but I've had 4 cars with this engine and none have missed a beat! All LR cars from 1984

Quite agree with all that Gremlin said in his post, however you should get an extended warranty. FFRR are expensive if they go wrong, (luckily I have had no problems at all)but I've always changed cars after 3 or 4 years and sold privately. All LR cars from 1984

I’m on my 3rd V8 Diesel - every one has been faultless - no issues whatsoever. I’ve also got several friends and family members who have had failures with the V6 diesel. 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

For balance,: the owner survey on this very forum says they are in a tiny minority, probably just as common as V8 AB’s written off due to rotten roof drains Rolling with laughter “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

I think all models have something that can do wrong…most of the time its down to how they have been looked after by owners and luck of the draw

Chalky makes a good point about a warranty or the like.

I think there comes a time when you are better off putting the warranty premium aside and dealing with it yourself. Especially with premiums being bracketed. I think the premium including assistance for a 5+ year old FF is £1740pa.

I say this from experience, as on my previous 65 plate FF I had LR warranty right up until I sold it in September this year.

In years 3-4 the cover was great and pretty much every claim was paid, no fuss. Then, in the last few years, when the dealer identified a faults they were quick to have me sign the diagnostics fee notification should the warranty not cover the repair.

Then the claims seemed to be refused. Refusals included a failed brake actuator, control arm and steering gaitor, this claim was eventually paid on appeal after I read Stan experienced the same problem and his claim was covered. Their final refusal was the failure of the front camera whilst it was in the dealership having other warranty work. The claim was refused on the grounds of water ingress. They didn't give me any photos of the water-damaged camera, just a diagnostic invoice for £200 (which I didn't pay).

To be fair, other factors may have played a part, such as pressures on the brand from, Covid, the pure volume of JLR mechanical failures and their terrible supply chain issues.

However, I've certainly noticed a change from the once "no fuss" LR Warranty I've had on my cars since 2014. 2024 P550e Autobiography

I'm inclined to agree with Gremlin.

There was a poll about 3.0L crankshaft breaking, but all poll's give a distilled view, we are more akin to moaning about things rather than shouting from the roof tops.

I've had my V6 Vogue for over a year and the stuff that has gone wrong, would probably have also gone wrong on any L405. I change the oil every six months and put what I would have spent on a warranty onto my RR repair credit card (don't leave home without it)

I'm fortunate I guess that my was a spec up Vogue (fog lights, soft close, blind spot monitoring)

I must admit I love my V6 vogue, it does what I want when I want, Unless SWIMB is driving it.

There I said it a positive You've bought WHAT!!
