Not knowiing what your exact spec was, it was just an example from a quick search that there are 15 LWB available at the moment on AT with varying age, mileage and price.

You're not going to get a Fifty edition LWB with a 4.4SDV8 as they didn't make them. They'd switched to the D350 by then. 2021 D350 Fifty Edition - Carpathian Grey

Hi James,

Has the dealer talked about accepting the car back? Given you bought it as a distance sale, you have much stronger consumer rights if you want to go down the road of rejecting it.

Outside of this I think a good starting point would be to have the car fully independently inspected so you can rule out any possibility of it having been an accident damaged car that’s been put right off the book. Given the mileage discrepancy it’s worth knowing exactly what you’ve got before going any further.

Sounds like you like the car and it’s what you want, so long as it stacks up legally, mechanically and financially then maybe there’s a route through this that you’ll be happy with.

Mot and services tie in. So possibly done first 3 years.

If it helps with your decisioning in any way... For me, the question of when the first service was carried out would be a massive factor in whether I would personally keep this particular vehicle. That's before discussing any warranty repairs / financial compensation for the mileage discrepancy from the seller.

The question is therefore; how old was the vehicle when it had its first service? Also, what was the recorded mileage at that service?

If it was at 3 years old, then (given the mileage has been tampered with) I'd have serious concerns for the well-being of the engine over the longer term of ownership. Obviously guessing here, but as an example, it may have actually done 39K miles and not the 15K or so possibly recorded at that first service! Shocked

SDV8's are tough old motor's, but failures aren't unheard of. They require fresh oil every year to keep carbon deposits down and the rotating bits in good fettle.

Dealer is having think. I have had a jlr inspection of the vehicle completed. Asked them to cover all work currently.needed plus gone me a figure for mileage allowance. Difference is circa £5k on used price mileage difference. Cheers

LR service history is available online for later models (2013 on), all you need is the VIN number.

I'm sure you know this, but here's the link just in case:

Hi,

Invest in a Car Verticals check, that should give a history of the mileage etc and also be able to tell you the MOT history.

It sounds to me like you've possibly, but unlikely bought a ringer, i.e. the car could be a clone / stolen with a new identity of a written off car, something like that, or history tampered with to hide something or it could just be a genuine error with the paperwork / ECU replaced at some time. Does the VIN in the front screen window and the engine number match the paperwork and the GAP IID tool and LR records.

Personally sounds like something dodgy here, but it's not a massive amount of money, if your happy stick with it, but you may have some issues when it comes time to sell. But then it gives you time to figure out what's happened.

Rozzers may come a knocking though if it's a ringer that really belongs to someone else.
