Refitting 2012 Parking Aid AH42-15K866-BG

Hi Folks,

Need some help here. The Parking Aid module of my 2012 TDV8 stopped working due to water ingress (root cause still under investigation). In the mean time, I purchased another (used) module with the same part number, HW and SW version (according to the print on the module).

I refitted the new module. When reversing, the steering assist (yellow curves on the reverse camera) now works again. BUT, the parking sensors not. I only hear one longer beep in the rear and then the led in the Parking Aid button starts blinking.

When using my IID Tool, there is no fault detected of that module and I can read the module's various parameters. All parameters are identical with ECU overview I created a while ago with the previous module, when I was still working.
However, one parameter is added to the parameter list, which is a VIN that I do not recognise. Is this module personalised for another car? If so can it be reprogrammed?

Any suggestions are welcome!

AFAIK you can't fit used units as on first use it's locked to the car's VIN. The reverse camera is not part of the parking assist module awhich only runs teh parking sensors. I had to buy 2 new units after water ingress destroyed 1st one. The 2nd one I mounted upside down to stop water dripping down the wires. There is a known issue with an unknown leak source in the rear that takes out not only parking modules but also the audio units so another solution is to put a plastic sheet over everything tucking to top under the parcel shelf support. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Thanks JayGee

To be honest, this is my second one (as I thought the leak was repaired). My first replacement Park Assist module was also a used one, and that worked well as a replacement of the original module. After going to the car wash a few weeks later, this unit also drowned. As the leak apparently was not solved. Back to square one ☹️.

So, at least that module was exchangeable without problems.

Mabe earlier ones could be exchanges an later ones not, however the SW version printed on all modules I have (2 drowned and the current one) are all identical.

Good to know used units work. I never found the leak either so but just went with a sheet of plastic. JLR must also be struggling as they fitted a plastic splash cover on the inside on later cars. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

After doing a lot of experiments with the IIDTool, I discovered the following:

When going to the CCF menu, there is also a 'PAM - Parking Aid' section. When changing one of the parameters of either “Config (2010-11) : 41” or “Config 2012+) : 254” and store it and change back both to the original value “Both” the Park assist starts working as expected!

BUT, when stopping the engine and starting it again, the Parking Aid only works for 2-3 seconds, after which the sounder in the back gives a longer beep (assuming that this an error warning), after which the Parking Aid stops working.

It seems that in some way the CCF settings are not stored or cleared after the engine is stopped.

Any advise would be welcomed!

Kind regards=, Rob

I seem to remember that when my PAM’s failed there was no light or tone and only got this when one of the sensor wires broke. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Thanks @Range Rover L322, very recognisable and helpful! In the mean time I also put a plastic cover sheet over all the electronics on the LH side.

Now I only need to solve the culprit of the PAM module Censored

Hi Robkuijpers,

Did you ever get a resolution to the PAM issue?

I need a replaceemnt unit as mine was full of water and has visible damage to the circuit board.

Thanks

Neil

Hi

Eventually I had to replace it with a virgin/new PAM, that it immediately started worked working as its should.

Still unclear why the previous (used) part did not work fully, whereas before the second water leak, I was able to get a used PAM working, with a bit of fiddling (using te GAP tool).

The Landrover specialist (not an o$$icial dealer) could also not explain.

Thanks Rob,

Today I have had delivered a 2nd hand unit, it seems to work as after swapping over the module ,the light now shows on the switch. Tomorrow I will go and give it a good trial and see if it lasts. If not then time for a new one.

New ones are £260 from LR dealer.

Cheers

Neil

Well I have driven the car a few times and so far the 2nd hand module works perfectly. Was happy that I only paid £68 for the 2nd hand unit and it looks very clean. Will now work out a way to try and stop any water getting into it, I have reveiwed the other posts on here about this.

Have not had to make any changes or adaptions on the GAP IID.

If things change i will update.

Cheers

Neil
