Norway, Bergen to Stavanger.

I’ve just read of Norway,’s plan to build a multi billion tunnel from Bergen to Stavanger.
Whilst I can only marvel at such a feat of engineering, I can also feel sadness that visitors will miss out on the trip of a lifetime, driving around the Hardanger Fjord and the various sights along the way, including Pulpit mountain with its breathtaking views up the Fjord.

It was the first of many foreign trips I did in my brand new P38 back in 2000 when the ferry sailed from Newcastle to Bergen and returned from Stavanger the following week.

I have toured all over Europe in the last twenty years but that holiday was by far the best ever.
Anyone who gets the chance to visit the area should fill up their tanks and hit the road.

Happy days.
Mike.

i'm sure if peeps still want to see the views then they would take the old road Mike, and the roads will be quieter.

always wanted to go up to norway/sweden but it all seems a long way away.. ... - .- -.

It used to be so easy to get to Norway with weekly ferry sailings from Newcastle.
I went twice , both in my P38, but would without doubt have gone more if the service was still available.

Maybe they'll go full tech overload and have scenery projected onto the tunnel walls.

Hey Stan, you could always cheat and take the keil to Oslo ferry. A good 8 hours drive from Calais to keil just past Hamburg and then you can have a nice 12 hour rest on the ferry. Used that ferry many times in a truck, great food, nice cabins, nightclub and casino.
From Oslo you can drive about 2 hours south to Sweden and a bit further more south you are in Gothenburg.
I've been all over Sweden, Finland, Norway and Denmark in a truck and some of the views are breathtaking. I've been there many times in the middle of winter and went as far north as ornskoldvic which is just shy of the artic circle. -28c north of Stockholm then creeping down to -32c the further I went. The first time ever I wore a coat while driving lol.

I was lucky enough to live around Stavanger for a few years. Drove to and from UK a few times taking various ferries, but mainly from the top of Denmark to Stavanger on the daily ferry which goes on to Bergen after Stavanger. I’ve done Folkestone to top of Denmark in a day, but that was during Covid times when stopping was complicated.
When they did a few road upgrades around Stavanger the new road signs even had GB Ferry signs so maybe something will start again one day 😁
Don’t forget road tolls, those shiny new tunnels need to be paid for 😁 used to cost me £22 to use 2 tunnels to get to downtown Stavanger rtn (one was 14km and 300m below sea level). But at least they remove the tolls once the project cost has been recouped.
