Oil Extractor Pumps with good length pipes - recommendatios

Hi all, I am looking at recommendations for good manual oil extraction pumps that have suitably long extraction pipes. I have seen lots of recommendations for pumps but when looking at the sale adverts for them they very rarely state the actual length of the extraction pipes so I am looking at members experience of the following;

Most robust yet cost effective pump?

If the pump that you purchased had suitably long enough extraction pipes?

If the pump is good BUT the pipes were not long enough what did you do to extend the length?

Now we are talking the L405 4.4 Diesel so a 9 litre is minimum I guess and I would pay the substantially more expensive price of a 10 litre Draper (?) version but what have you guys found to be most useful? _______________________________________________

I think they all have pipes that are too short for use on a Range Rover as the height up to the engine bay takes up a good portion of the pipe. Probably fine on a ‘normal’ car.

I bought a couple of metres of plastic tubing with 6mm internal diameter. It fits onto the pump perfectly as well as the oil extraction tube. Problem solved.

Hi Alex1976, were there any specific characteristics of the rubber piping that you bought to consider?
Specifically I assume that there is a temperature requirement and also a minimum wall thickness to prevent the piping from collapsing in on itself under pressure but still being soft for flexibility? _______________________________________________

Thumbs Up 10L Draper, especially when you have oil dilution! no issue with hose length either.

Good point, this post.
I have a Neilsen vacuum pump, which came with pretty short hoses, so I added a length of clear PVC hose and yup! -it went pretty flat pretty quick with the warm oil, so had to chuck it after one use.
I replaced it with the cloudy nylon hardwall stuff like THIS 10mm bore, 12mm OD:

I just found this on AliExpress: £1.11 | Nylon Tube Hose PA High Pressure Oil And Water Pipes ID 2mm 3mm 4mm 5mm 6mm 7mm 8mm 9mm 10mm Plastic Hard Pipe 1/2/5Meter
https://a.aliexpress.com/_EzuXHgv

I have a very short bit of silicone hose 8mm bore (to fit the extraction pipe), which just pushes tightly into the 2m long nylon stuff a few inches, and no leaks. I was concerned the softer walls of an all-silicone hose would repeat my previous failure.

The downside of the nylon is that it’s hard and springy, with a “mind of its own” but apparently, can be tamed by clamping both ends to hold it straight, then heating with a hot air gun to straighten the coils & then allow to cool.

Interested to find what others do? Sheep “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

Read this thread too.........
https://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic70436.html

The pump I bought (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/196311253616) to extract the oil worked great, sucking out all the oil in less than 10mins.

Couple of comments about the bits included with the pump. It has 2 metal outlet tubes which you screw into each side of the pump body and is also supplied with 3 tubes, a 10mm ID outlet tube and 2 inlet tubes (8mm/6mm), together with a couple of push fit connectors.

The oil extraction pipe on the FF needs a 8mm ID pipe so the smaller pipes and the push fit connectors were not usable. Fortunately I had some 8mm pipe at home so just cut a small length to fit between the extraction pipe and the pump using a couple of jubilee clips.

And that's it, job done in less than an hour Very Happy 2021 D350 Fifty Edition - Carpathian Grey

@Rob99:

Please can you check & edit your post above as necessary? Thank you:

The metal oil extraction pipe on the fullfat is 8mm OD, not 10mm. (7.95mm actually Laughing )
At least it is on a V6, can’t think it’s a different part tho’.

So 10mm bore is good but it needs a step-down to fit the car end, that’s why I needed a short bit of 8mm siltube to grip the metal tube and get a good seal. Thumbs Up “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

Thanks both for confirming, so it’s the same no matter v6 or V8 Fullfats.

I’ll try to get a pic of mine, but it’s brass monkeys up in Newcastle, and I did an oil change 2 weeks ago, so grow your beards, chaps! Rolling with laughter

There are some cheap serrated chrome tube joints on Amazon suitable for 10mm bore tube, which you can just about persuade 8mm sil tube on to if you get it hot enough. I also used spring fuel hose clips as an extra measure, oil is messy stuff if a tube flies off!

Interested to see how well the nylon will perform with hot oil, it could be back to the drawing board next year! “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

Hi,

I'd advise getting some reinforced clear silicone hose. The usual stuff collapses when the oil is hot under suction.

I use this pump: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/196311253616

And this hose, I bought 5m & cut to length: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/352786292130?var=622083863558 with a spring clip just to stop it slipping off the dipstick tube.

With the oil quite warm, takes less than 5 mins to drain all 10 litres straight into a 20l waste oil container. If I start the pump, the sump is empty by the time I've replaced the filter.

I purchased a 12v Pump like this

https://kinet.com.au/products/dc-12v-elect...d_source=1

Attach to top of oil tube and clamp. Attach to battery power outlet and drain in 4 mins.

Better than any suction hand pumps.

I found PVC gets too soft with the hot oil and collapses almost flat, constricting the flow, whereas the nylon is much harder and resists collapse, assisting the flow.
The nylon I purchased above was a bit springy, but cured by tensioning between two clamps and heating for several minutes with a hoy air gun. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?
