The wires usually break near the top of the strut. They go fragile and break with the strut turning side to side. |

I’ll double check them but they seemed good when I checked them and ran a continuity test 1990 3.5 v8 defender

Have you got a fault on the dash?

Try peeling the top 4" of loom tape off and look at the wires. My insulation was broken in a few places and the wires snapped. Perhaps when you are doing the continuity test you are folding the wires back into contact with each other. Repaired mine twice which broke again so I then got a repair kit. |

Yes, as above, one of the wires has broken on the cables to the fronts. It could be rear but very rarely as the front ones have to turn with the steering. Recommend getting a couple of repair kits and doing both.

You should be able to test the damper internals for a short or open circuit by using a multimeter across the pins and checking resistance and compare it to the other side. Never heard of the internals failing electricaly but as others have found the wiring is a frequent point of failure. If you have a look at any wiring and connectors on these cars it's obvious a cost saving excercise was done as bare insulators are exposed before virtualy every plug and socket even in criticaly exposed areas under the car 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322) |

Well guys thank you for your input I have inspected the wiring again and gave it a good flexing to try and find a break but nothing , however after putting it back together it’s now ok and working with no fault, I am expecting it to come back but maybe just replace the 2 front looms to be sure, comparing them to my 4.4 TDV8 they have been replaced before where the 4.4 hasn’t.
