Heard something interesting today...

I had to call the AA out today as my battery had gone flat.
We talked about the new FFRR battery problems. He knew of the issues and informed me that the AA have a fleet of vans painted silver, simply marked CUSTOMER SERVICE, with no other markings, purely to attend to new FFRRs. This, apparently is funded by Land Rover to avoid the embarrassment of having a regular AA van attend to jumpstart the car.

Of course, it could be one of those stories. Anyone seen one out and about? 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded

Sounds odd, but not completely implausible. I would have thought if you buy a new RR though you get LR Assistance don't you? These tend to be silver vans I think from memory?

Maybe they just don't say LR A anymore so they can be used for all the Jags that break down too!?

Won't they sort of give the game away when they pull out a booster from their "customer service" van jump start the car with it?

Most manufacturers' roadside assistance vehicles are simply marked "Customer Assistance", without mention of the manufacturer.

Round our way, they use silver R class' as the customer service cars, they look strangely cool, might persuade pops to get me one as my next work van Laughing 2006 Mercedes CLS

Aren't most AA drivers owner drivers? In which case they would want their vans liveried up surely for the down time when they stand selling membership? Of which I'm sure they get some kind of bonus otherwise you just wouldn't would you. 2010 Disco XS TDV6, 2009 Freelander 2 GS

I can confirm that we have a 'continuing' dodgy FFRR TDV8 MY10 that still has battery going flat issues. LR Assist often comes in the form of a yellow AA van (you only tend to get the Discovery Vehicles in LR livery when they are not too busy).

It gets jump started although these days I tend to jump it off the D3 (getting to be a pro at it).

Phone call two weeks ago from dealer said the vehicle is going to recalled (ours specifically - not sure about others) to have a new batch of software and goodies inserted into it (but they are just waiting on the factory to release the 'update pack'). Exclamation

Oh the joys of owning a £70k car Crying or Very sad Currently running FFRR MY10 TDV8 3.6L and a Disco 3 XS Commercial (tank like but very effective as a Company van). Plus one mint condition Track Day Car in the form of an E36 M3 3.2L Evolution circa June 1996 with lots of go faster bits and only 52k miles on the clock! Oh, plus a few bits to make it slow down really quickly as well! Luvverly.

Confused I had a letter a little while back that said that the AA were taking over the duties of LR Assist.

Also passed a Discovery 4 yesterday in the old LR Assist colours but with just Customer Service sign written on it

Easy way to avoid issues MICK, just don't buy any Land Rover product for six months to a year when they do major changes. Wink
Gives them a chance to annoy the customers who can't wait on a new model and correct the faults on the production line for those not in a rush.

Using this logic I've have three brand new Land Rover products and each has been trouble free...

That's sensible advice on any car I think. Even better is to wait 3 years until the worst of the depreciation is paid for and all the bugs are out. Laughing

I waited 7 years until it started going wrong. Big Cry

Guess the sweet spot is 3-5 years. Thumbs Up
