L405 Brakes

Hi, Guys

I have been pricing up new disc and pads for my car and went for OEM Duckworth's quote is £903

JGS4X4 for Drilled and vented green stuff pads and service kit wear sensor £296

I can't understand why so much difference in price?

( found out Duckworth's quoted for a caliper as well) So take off £ 334 + Vat still a big difference. 2017 SDV8 4.4 silicon silver AB

OEM vs aftermarket, always the same, you pay for the name like all branded stuff. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

Have you tried Brembo from CarParts4Less?

The discs are squally cheap from them and Brembo pads are cheaper from LRParts

I bought these 2 years ago, front AND rear for £550, genuine Brembo pads and drilled/vented discs.
They have been totally fine, no issues whatsoever. I am a qualified mechanical engineer working in the brakes industry for more than 30 years, I have no affiliation with the advertiser, other than as a satisfied customer:

IMHO, there is a lot of bullsh*t about OEM this & that by armchair internet experts, but there are equally some great quality aftermarket parts available, the problem is sorting the wheat from the chaff.

Much of the OEM stuff is made in various countries in Asia these days where QA can be patchy, and parts often no better quality than aftermarket at best. Caveat emptor. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

I’ve been using Brembo pads and discs (front and rear) and can’t fault them. One advantage over the LR parts is that the Brembo disc centres (bells) do not rust.

I always shop around as online prices vary considerably.

ETA- I always avoid drilled/slotted discs as I find them a magnet for small stones when driving off road.

OE pricing works differently and is an entirely different business model, hence the price gap.

Land Rover do not make the braking parts, they outsource this. The OE pads are usually Textar or Jurid, which are widely available in the aftermarket for the same (well, might not be 100% the same as some specs might be changed from the service part specified from LR)

The discs I am not sure on, from memory when I replaced the ones on my L322 with genuine they had no markings on them to determine the supplier but ironically were competitively priced vs. aftermarket.

I found the right Textar pads on eBay, from a bulk trade seller. £48 for the front set and have been absolutely perfect since fitting. Think LR quote was around £432 for essentially the same thing.

Discs are not a complex thing, so most aftermarket applications will be fine.

Just fitted genuine Brembo discs front and rear. £140 for the front pair and £132 for the rear from CarParts4Less (also got Brembo brake pads). I also got £30 discount as the whole order cam to over £300.

Just so everyone is aware, there are a LOT of fake Brembo brake pads around, so don’t buy from unknown sources. If the price is fantastic, the pads probably won’t be. Thumbs Up “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?
