Battery Issues - Any Ideas?

Now had to call out assistance on 3 occasions due to a flat battery (or rather battery protection kicking in)... always 3 days after last journey and even after the battery was 100% charged using a trickle charger.

Assistance can find no cause, all software up-to-date, battery checking ok.

Anybody else had this (I suspect a few people are seeing it as the assistance chap was saying that LR are trying a few things to resolve it).

I have. pedal guard on, anybody experienced battery issue with one on? Could the pedal guard be putting pressure on the break pedal causing something to not shut down?

Anything else I can check?

Booked into the dealer but not until end of November and you can guarantee that it won't happen when in the workshop.

Aargh...

Mine’s a D350 with the mild-hybrid 48v battery as well as a normal 12v battery. I can leave it for 2 months without any sort of charging and it starts first time. The first ever RR that I’ve owned that didn’t discharge after a couple of weeks or sooner.

It does go in to sleep mode after a few days. The app tells you when it’s in sleep mode. Maybe yours isn’t going in to sleep mode? MY23 D350 HSE

That’s a good point, I cannot remember seeing the message saying that the “telematics” have shut down. Will keep an eye out.

So after 4 days, I am still able to see the information from the car (and getting the confirmation "updated just now"

My F-Type has gone to sleep and showing the "onboard telematics is in sleep mode" after a similar timeframe the L460

Anybody know what the sleep time is for an L460.... Could something be keeping it awake? (in the same way it is keeping me awake!!! lol)

Help wanted for a possible sleep deprived L460 and its Owner...

I had this issue. Long story you can find on another post. Nov/dec 2022. Long and short jump started by the rescue squad . Taken to the ( very rude) dealer a few days later, could find nothing wrong. They did charge overnight, I’m not sure if they have a bigger better chargers that teach parts the alternator is unable to reach.
NB There is a slab of battery thar delivers the mild hybrid- might be a red herring.
Some think it’s to do with the now disabled unlock on approach.
I wondered if it was a short on replaced recalled rear lights that were getting wet. Gurus on here say not. Long since remedied by JLR for new production.

That was two years ago and no issues since. Filters are in fact so good that in certain circumstances, when the ambient air is already polluted, a diesel car will tend to extract more particles from the air than it emits. Emissions Analytics worked with........etc etc

I have a slot at a dealer in November so will see what happens between now and then. I used the car over the weekend (40 + 40 miles) and it now isn’t going to get used for a couple of weeks. Will see if it goes to sleep (or goes flat).

Search “Parasitic Drain” on here, how this affects MHEVs, I’m not so sure TBH, but
IMHO this affects many LR models in recent times, especially those used mainly for short trips.
The sound system alone presents a major battery drain, plus the combined effect of all the gadgets and electronics on these highly-specified vehicles, and motorised everything. We solved the problem with our fully-loaded Evoque by always plugging in the CTEK at home, to avoid the dreaded “Low Battery - Start Engine”. So when the fullfat arrived, it was just natural to continue the process. I later added the excellent (and cheap) Vgate Battery Assistant (BT), to allow remote battery monitoring for any parasitic drain issues, a simple and easy DIY installation, to allow checking the battery condition after the vehicle has shut down completely, with just a few clicks on your phone.
It’s interesting that (with a newish battery) the (non-MHEV) vehicle conventional battery will be sufficiently drained after a daily 16-mile round trip that it needs about 4 hours on a 5-amp CTEK to get the battery back to 100%. I have no way to substantiate my theory as yet, but again only IMHO, the vehicle alternators are selected for minimal mechanical resistance (to save fuel and pass emissions tests) and have inadequate output to properly maintain battery SOC in an urban environment, which of course, is the fault of the driver/owner.

Thanks @Gremlin500, ironically I do have one of the Ctek Li-On chargers and was going to put it on charge the day it last ran flat (typical). The problem is that there are so many processors and supporting electronics on these cars that gone are the days of using a switch to operate the window motor….. now a switch tells a processor to put a “window down” message on a computer network which is confirmed by the body control unit and then it sends a message down another computer network to another processor that switches the motor on…. Just crazy. My guess is that one of the many processors is not shutting down under certain conditions and hence killing the battery. I figure it will eventually be found. As I don’t have any other theories at the moment, I am blaming the county of Norfolk in the UK as it seems to nearly always happen within a few days of me leaving the county….😂😂
