2016 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Nara Bronze

How to immobilise

Hi, I just got my add (thanks admin) and literally just arrived home with my first ever RR, a 2016 sdv8 autobiography. Whilst I sell my other car, is there a way I can immobilise her by unplugging an engine ecu plug or something? Something cryptic if possible rather than pulling a fuse? Cheers

I don't think it's a very good idea to ask on a public forum how people immobilise their cars...

Try unplugging things yourself and see what works for you... Pete

I hear you but I didn’t think it controversial to ask about unplugging modules as this can be done in any car and a thief opening with bonnet to try and get it plugged back in would sound the alarm, so I thought it was a safe ask. The thing is I don’t want to go pulling plugs even with the power off in case it causes damage when I then play with menus etc

Take a wheel off, works as a good visual deterrent.

Ghost 2 and a steering wheel lock?

Think that’s what I’d do…. Maybe a locking post in your drive?

2014 Range Rover Vogue SDV8 Aintree Green

Turn off keyless entry for a start, and isolate the OBD-II plug under the dash. That is how they are usually nicked.

Have you got it insured? who did you go with and price?
London is a hotspot for thefts and higher insurance. 2018 SE SDV8 4.4 Byron Blue

I took out one-day insurance to drive her home so she’s not insured now. I’m planning to swap the insurance over when I sell my current car. I did do a check on go-compare for both and the Range Rover is three times as high as my BMW 435d, yikes

You live in London and no insurance, brave man. Take all the wheels off and the steering wheel then

Depends on how deep you would like to go...

When I swapped the spinny knob for an L494 Lever... I 'noticed' that the Brown/Red wire feeds power to the shifter module. 'In theory' you could splice into that and hide a switch somewhere... behind the valet function on the glove box would be a decent choice... Even if they start it - it's not going anywhere...

Now if they are just @$$Holes... they may damage your interior, but all that takes time. From what I have seen online - and a neighbor that had his Dodge Charger stolen a couple of weeks ago - we are talking seconds to steal a car...
