GAP IID G3 Throwing Errors

Hi Guys,

I just bought a GAP IID G3 tool. I start the car after inputting the Ghost 2 sequence and as soon as I connect the G3 tool the dash starts to throw multiple errors like aig bag fault, HDC error and others. Its the same even if I put its in valet mode.

Any advice?

Thanks

Any chance the ODB port has been switch out? I know that it is possible to change the ODB port, effectively rewire it, and require an adapter to plug into it. It is another security measure that can be implemented. Only came to mind as you say you have a Ghost 2 fitted so unless you had it fitted maybe the previous owner went for extra security? Long shot I know but I cant think of any reason why a GAP tool would do what you are seeing. _______________________________________________

First time the whole Speedo cluster just went black. I had to switch the car off and wait a few secs to turn back on and it came back but with a bunch of errors. I removed the gap tool and turned it off and on, entered ghost sequence and it returned to normal except engine management light stayed on. Tried again and as soon as I entered the tool it threw more errors but didn’t turn off the screen this time but car would not start.

It’s possible based on how the car is reacting when I put the tool in the port. However a garage recently plugged in their diagnostic tool and it worked fine. If there was some kind of switch out would their one not have worked also?

I emailed GAP but their responses are pretty terrible. Mostly one liners and not very helpful. See one below

“its either defective or the OBD pins are not tight enough even if they look tight”

Get a Autel AP200 they are good and cheap and will certainly be proof that the GAP tool is ill or not. 2018 SE SDV8 4.4 Byron Blue

i fear this 'might' be user error....

was the gap iidtool inserted properly? if some pins were bent then this would certainly cause problems.. ... - .- -.

all the pins on the gap iid tool are dead straight. I have tried to re-insert multiple times. I tried inserting with car fully off and search but would not detect tool.

I tried with power on but engine off and still does not detect tool.

As soon as I turn engine on and search for the tool it throws all the errors.

can you try the tool on another landrover vehicle?

this should confirm whether the tool is at fault . ... - .- -.

We see this on occasion. Dash lights up like a Christmas tree when you plug the tool in

Very rare that it does happen, but we can't get the tool to work at all when it does, and grab the next bit of kit
