Hi, I’m going to be driving out to the alps from the UK a few times this winter and wanted advice on all season tires which are good in the snow. Don’t want to go to winter tires because of the journeys to and from the Alps.

The Savoy prefectures have been issued a more strict remit to stop and fine, any vehicle on designated roads ie up to ski resorts, if not equipped with snow chains or other mechanical device unless the vehicle has tyres with the 3 peaks symbol embossed on the tyre wall.
I have Grabber AT3 with the 3 peak symbol which are deemed acceptable for my trip to the 3V this year.

It seems that Michelin Cross Climate 2 does get high marks time after time on tests
Other notables are Bridgestone, Continental but basically it’s premium tyres. The one big take home message was that cheap tyres are not particularly good 🤔full stop if you want to stop

The article in JayGee's link gives the impression that only full winter tyres have the Alpine 3 peak designation. There are a number of all season tyres that are 3 peak marked and you should be fine with any of them as that is the mark the polices look out for. I have Pirelli Scorpion SF2 on mine which are appropriately marked 3pmsf all season tyres. They replaced Good Year Wranglers marked only M+S which did not inspire much in way of confidence on the white stuff. Expecting a significant improvement this winter.

When I have been in Iceland the locals rated these and they do a lot of snow driving.

On the other hand I run Michelin Primacy all season in 275/50R21 and trips to Scotland in the winter they have performed faultlessly. They are not 3PMSF so not Euro winter compliant.
