It did cross my mind to why would you have both keys in the car at the same time. Then forget to take them out enter the house and then lock it. I dare you ..you go first 2021 SVautobiography Dynamic Black ( Black wheels need to go )

UPDATE:

Just went on the JLR website an hour ago and checked, and got it booked in for the Security Update 8am this Friday morning!

EDIT:

 I thought it sounded too good to be true, MD called and said “no work outstanding” on the car, why have you booked it in? They don’t even know what an N877 is, never heard of it!
Apparently it had N828 in 2023, but “it wasn’t done by us, did you take it elsewhere?”
Yup, they did the service in 2023, but looks like they forgot to update their own workshop records. :censored:

Asked them to contact LR to clarify, and will call them next week (after they’ve forgotten to call me back as usual).

“ How do I know if my key is a UWB smart key?

The UWB smart key was introduced from 18 Model Year (MY) on select vehicles and is provided with all vehicles from 21MY onwards. To identify if your key has UWB technology is the badge on the rear of the key fob. Faraday pouches are not needed if UWB technology is in use. If you are unsure if your smart key has UWB technology, please contact your local Retailer.”

I have not seen an UWB badge on any recent JLR cars that I've driven (replacement, test drive, etc.). They are all similar to my 2019 key, that has just this marking inside and not on the back: MODEL: PEPSFOB

from the web: The term PEPSFOB on a car key model stands for Passive Entry Passive Start Fob. This refers to a key fob that uses a Passive Entry Passive Start (PEPS) system. A PEPS system allows you to unlock and start your car without physically using the key. Instead, the car and key communicate wirelessly using radio frequency signals. When the key is near the car, you can unlock the doors and start the engine simply by pressing a button. This technology offers convenience and ease of use, as you don’t need to take the key out of your pocket or bag to access and start your vehicle.

So, is this UWB or not?

That sounds like plain old “keyless entry/keyless start” to me, why am I not surprised if the LR website info is incorrect :rolllaugh: seems we are no further forward as to how to tell the difference, assuming you have a model in the changeover period.

Anyone?

UWB came with the 2018 model year facelift, so nothing before that is UWB.

So, does this mean that I didn't meet one of the "from 18MY select vehicles"?

Anyway, called the dealer today and my VIN does not have a security update.

No idea - I wouldn’t have thought keys are market-specific. Can you check TOPIx?

In the days when one could check one's car configuration in TOPIx, the only mention about keys was:
KEYLESS ENTRY/START-PASSIVE

Maybe the security updates/recalls are market-specific?

it seems that like a lot of people on here, I have wasted my time making a booking for the security update on my 2016 FFRR car.
I went online, completed the booking as requested and even arranged for a loan car while it was done.
A confirming email followed with all the details and I was told that I would be contacted by a "person" from the selected dealership.
Well, surprise surprise, the "person" rang this afternoon with full apologies to say that:
a) Until I was personally contacted by the dealership, the update would not be done anyway.
b) Because the update only takes 30/40 minutes, a loan car would not be available.
The "person" did say that he works for an agency not JLR and was working under instruction only.
His final comment was that in his opinion, JLR are useless and have no idea what they are doing.
I am honestly not surprised that this has happened and it only re-confirms my long held impressions of the company.
If I didn't like the damn car so much I would have been off elsewhere years ago. Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

Just updating this thread: I had the N877 security update applied by local dealer this week, (MY 2017) whilst car was in for service - I had to prompt them to do it mind you.

Still awaiting delivery of my sleeping batteries for the fobs, but fobs are generally in faraday box at home or pouch when out and about. L405 2017 TDV6 AB

The car knows and won't let you lock it with the key or keys left in the car. Go try it, I dare you.

Yes, you get three peeps or so and it won’t lock. Unless you have that funky wrist band and lock it with that (I don’t have it but have on occasions on the beach wished I had optioned it, but it’s a bigger issue for me to look at myself in a wetsuit so I quickly forget) L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)...
