Two tone, or not two tone....??

I think this will be a very Marmite subject, please feel free to say what you think, good or bad....

I've had the 405 for just over two years now and just fancy doing something a bit difference, I've always liked the look of two tone on fatties so was wondering if I should do mine, it looks like this at present...

I can't find a picture of the exact colour but this gives you the idea....

Do the bottom half in a gun metal grey that will match the Loire Blue of the top half, same position of the colour split, same silver wheels and bottom door trims as I don't like the black pack, just respray the bottom panels all the way round...

This will be a proper job being re painted, NOT a wrap...

Don't care if you like it or loath it but please state your thoughts....

Cheers... Pete

Top will have to stay Loire Blue, bottom will be some hue of gunmetal that goes with the blue, the one above would not look good IMHO but should be able to find one that looks good together with the blue...

Picture above is really just to show where the colour would change... Pete

I think the only consideration given that you are painting rather than wrapping is how it might affect the future value.

If you’re keeping it for some time then maybe not a big issue but in the short term it may be a hard sell as it pushes it into the very niche end of what people might be looking for.

I’ve always liked the L405 with the two tone roof panel, silver with your blue for example I always thought looks very smart, not quite as sold on this though.

Whatever you do I’m sure it will end up looking better than planned.

Good luck.

I think the dark upper section of the body detracts from the floating roof effect of the RR, and only serves to create disproportion in the ratio of body panel / window / roof design lines that the L405 has to such a nice degree. ( the L405 proportions are way better than the L322, and the L460 lost it again imho) V8 or else ...

There's also an added complication here of the DVLA.

I could be wrong but again given this is not a wrap and a permanent change I think if the majority colour is more than 50% of the surface it is usually classed as that on the V5 - as I said its something you'd have to check.

The consequences are that the cars history would show a colour change that from an outsiders point of view could be fairly assumed to have been a result of accident damage as to be frank not that many people choose to re-paint a perfectly serviceable car. I would probably suspect that to be the case.

There's also the issue of notifying your insurance.

Not trying to put a spanner in the works for you but trying to ensure that you might have considered all possible outcomes.

J

In themselves the colours are fine but, to me, the split between the two, in either case, makes the top half look detached from the bottom half. John

I’m surprised that most people think that Land Rover had zero taste when they dreamt up this 2-tone thing. Personally, I think it looks OK, but only if the colours compliment one another in a subtle way, so no lime green & orange.

It is also impractical for body repairs, but each to his own Marmite….. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

I quite like the two tone. I also like the different colour roofs, but that might look strange if you do the body also.
