Hi.

I have a jet washer which I use around the garden etc. I was wondering how suitable this is for cleaning my FF. I wouldn't normally have much concern but there are so many electrical bits in the car I have some worries about water being forced into anywhere it shouldn't be. I am particularly thinking about cleaning under wheel arches and around wheels and brakes etc, but I am mindful of doing too much as I knackered the alternator on my Discovery a few years ago when it appears some water shorted out some components after I cleaned the engine bay.

I am sure somebody will just say "use it on low power then" but then I may as well use a normal hose.

Any thoughts folks? No longer FF owner but still interested. Present car Jaguar XE

I used a power wash on my FFRR wheel arches yesterday, not a problem

as you know a pressure washer will only take off surface dirt so you still need to either snow foam the car or wash it with car shampoo and then pressure wash the foam/shampoo off...

you are so right about the many electronics on the range and i for one only use my pressure washer on the wheels and underneath [like you suggested].

i use a waterless cleaning solution like the stuff you get on the shopping channels and it works well but there are times when water is preferable ..these times i wash with sponge and car shampoo and use the normal garden hosepipe to 'rinse' the car ...

Used a washer on all my cars never had an issue in 15 years Inc cars that have more sensors than a rangey. Only place to be very careful is under the hood !! Far to many gone...

Always use a pressure washer - for initial pre-wash rinse & final rinse.

If there's an imperfection in the paintwork it will find it but that's no bad thing - mine lifted the laquer off the front bumper - so it wasre-sprayed FOC under warrnaty.

I think you can relax and use your pressure washer - the FFRR is very well sealed against water ingress. If you remove some of the electrical connectors under the bonnet you will find they are triple sealed against water/dust. The only thing I would advise is extreme caution with the environmental box housing all the engine management etc.

One slightly amusing story: Having driven the Range to Nairobi it went into the local LR dealer for a through service - under my supervision. It was filthy as you can imagine and I asked for a thorough jet wash before we started work. I had only turned my back for two minutes to find the bonnet up and a Kenyan jet washing the entire engine bay for all it was worth. I cringed and wondered at the catastrophic problems this was going to cause... only to have no problems whatsoever.
