Looking to buy an SDV8

I’m starting a search for an L405, I’ve discounted the 3 litre because of the potential crank snapping issue.

Just wanted to know if there’s any weak points on them to look out for?, I’ve had L322s in the past so am no stranger to their issues but hoping to avoid gearbox and engine ones if possible, is the 8 speed better than the older 6?.

Also how can you tell if they’re Euro 6 or not?, as I really want to try and get an early Euro 6 if possible given that clean air zones are becoming more common, are they all ok from 2015 onwards?.

I believe that if they have an Adblue tank, then they are Euro 6.

I enjoy my SDV8 - the only snag is a continuing very slow loss of coolant, which I repair when it gets annoying and a new leak comes up somewhere else straight away.

Think about 2018 and onwards that have ultra wide band key security, London is a hotspot for thefts.
Also book a Ghost2 instal the day you take it home.
Check Insurance price first you will be surprised.
If its short London style journeys, think about a Petrol, as you will get significant fuel dilution issues.

Thanks, I should update my location I’m in Hampshire now, I’d love a 2018 facelift one just sadly a bit over budget at the moment.

That does seem annoying, still I’d rather have to sort that than a snapped crankshaft and as much as I’d love a petrol one they’re a bit too terrible on fuel!.

Diesels are a bit terrible on oil dilution.
I wonder what the differences are between yearly fuel difference costs v oil services cost Cool 2018 SE SDV8 4.4 Byron Blue

I never had a problem with oil dilution with any LR diesel engine and I’ve had a Freelander 1 TD4, Freelander 2 SD4, 2x L320 RRS TDV6 (2.7), L322 TDV8 (3.6) and L405 SDV8. Also had an F Pace 3.0 V6 Diesel. All did around 10K pa of mixed driving and all serviced on the button every year.

United Kingdom 2018 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Farallon Black

Hi, first post so go easy, having been a long-time lurker.

Some great knowledge on here, without doubt. I went for the SDV8 AB as an approved used last autumn and got two years LR warranty in the deal. It's a 17 car on an 18 plate in Farallon black, with cream interior.

Just had my insurance renewal go up by £400 to a shade over £1300 this time. Have since found eSure to be competitive at around £800, and it's wrapped up with extra security just to be a deterrent.

Did a 6 month oil change myself because oil is cheap, and I'm leaving my local indy James French to sort the annual stuff. Do keep an eye on the regens, they do shorten the service interval mileage, hence my choice to change oil after 6 months...

I have never had any issues with oil dilution and I’m on my 3rd V8 Diesel and 17th RR.

There are no issues as long as you don’t do very short / city trips. My shortest journey is around 10miles, she gets a good blast now and again and I drive it like an engine should be driven.

The issues occur when you do short stop start journeys, the engine doesn’t get hot and if you drive like Miss Daisy or a Modern Man ! 😊😂 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

Missed out on one over the weekend, I’m going to look at another tomorrow that’s Euro 5, for the amount of times I go into the ULEZ zone per year, the price difference even though the cars are pretty much the same and not having the added issues adblue brings, it doesn’t seem worth paying the premium.

Other question, does the Vogue SE come with heated/cooled seats and timed climate?, or were they options?.

The 2016 MY VSE I’ve just sold had heated/cooled seats, but not timed climate.
