United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Java Black

@Scouse Exile, I've recently replaced a front strut / spring on my 3.6 tdv8 using a Dunlop unit from Island 4x4. The unit does not come unit the damper / donut type thing that fits on the top, but it does have the cup that it screws onto. Was yours similar? I notev the instructions mention to install a new dampener. I've seen elsewhere that the dampener just unscrews, apparently, so why get a new one? Anyway, my underlying problem is that I've been unable to release the existing damper! I note the 15lbs torque ( ie not much) but high strength threadlocker. It won't break loose despite heating as hot as I can get it with a butane torch. I've cut the bag away and some of the top mount to enable the shock shaft to go I the vice and I've managed to get some movement on it, but that's from the dampener/ mounting cup moving on the shaft under the nylock top nut that's inaccessible underneath! I've give up for now so am running without the dampener! I'm wonderingnifnim missing a trick somewhere!

Chris

I resorted to drilling a small hole through the side of the cup and using a punch to drive the damper off, subsequently didn't bother with the dampers the next time I changed struts, and confirm that they make no noticeable difference on driving the car 4.2sc.

If you drive it on track like Lewis Hamilton then they may make a difference 🤔

Hi Chris, is the strut on or off the car? Mine didn’t come with any hardware for the top of the strut.

I ended up removing the damper with the strut off the vehicle but did use an impact wrench which is possibly the solution you need. It might have been easier taking them off on the car but either way an impact wrench should give you the force required to break the seal.

Keep us updated how you get on.

Hi
I used an impact gun on mine after failing with a hand held breaker. Came easily then but much easier when still on the car
