South Africa 2016 Range Rover SVAutobiography 5.0 SC V8 Baltic Blue

@Dadev, I bought a 2016 Range Rover SVAutobiography 5.0 Supercharged (L405) in November 2022 with 12343 kms on the clock = a unicorn, I know. Though I went to see the car, the first time I drove it was when I went to fetch it in Cape Town (I stay in Pretoria).

Odometer is now at about 61000kms and this car is pure joy - done numerous trips between Pretoria and Cape Town and Pretoria and George and every time just appreciates the creature comforts in it.

Work done other than normal services, had the gearbox serviced by ZF, proactively so as they told me it should have been serviced at between 80000kms and 100000kms and replaced antiroll bar bushes.

@Dadev, I forgot to say that you will probably get much more responses on the www.rrsport.co.uk site regarding the L494 Range Rover Sport

Hi gentlemen.

7 years later, and I'd like to reopen this thread.
The wife currently drives a Range Rover Evoque 2.0 Si4 Dynamic.
I am in the market for a 2020-2022 L494 Range Rover Sport, as it is time to get something bigger for our family.
I am going back and forth between the SDV8 and the P525 (5.0SC).
We are in South Africa, where emission control is not as rigid - so that does not play a role in my decision.
Not too worried about fuel costs either.

I would appreciate it if anyone on this thread could revisit it and give us some further insights to what you have experienced in the last couple of years.

Thank you.

Thank you for the response @vnitos.

That is indeed a unicorn, I hope she gives you many more blissful days of pure joy.
I know yours is the full size RR, but may I ask what sort of fuel consumption figures you get on the open road, with your journeys across country?

I will keep ZF in mind for gearbox services - They are down the road from me.

I will check out www.rrsport.co.uk, thank you!

Hi @Historian, great write up, I enjoyed the read. Bow down
I can appreciate that you are really fond of your L494 5.0 S/C.

I have only realised now that this forum (Full Fat RR) is referring to the full size RR. I will take the discussion onto your rrsport thread.

@Dadev, to be honest I have learnt not to keep record of fuel consumption as what I don't know I don't worry about. Twisted Evil However, during one of the trips from Pretoria to George, I did check and was pleasantly surprised as my tank-to-tank calculation worked out to 8.45km/l (11.83l/100km). I am one of those who when overtaking, ensure that I spend as little time as possible in the "wrong lane".

Best consumption with my 4.2 Supercharged L322 is about 7km/l and the D3 v8 is around 6.5km/l.

However, the worst I got was with the 1958 Cadillac which shortly after I got it only gave ... wait for it ... 3.5km/l (28.6l/100km) at about 100km/h. Fortunately it improved the more we used it (the owner before me did not use it often enough thus the engine was very tight).

United Kingdom 2011 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Java Black

OP here Smile

@Dadev, to your question - I took the plunge and traded our L322 TDV8 for a L405 5.0 SC in late 2018, and didn't look back. Coris grey with black leather, deployable steps and tow pack. The L405 SC was superb, we had some great times with it. Multiple trips across Europe, my youngest two children each came home from hospital in it when they were born. It was very reliable, made a lovely sound, well put together. I would still have it now, were it not for the fact we live in London where any Range Rover is high on the shopping list for the thieves. So sadly two years ago it was stolen from outside our house...We then moved to a L405 P400e hybrid. This was a delight around town, my only gripe was the shallower boot (not ideal with three small children). However on a longer run the 2.0 sounded gruff, and fuel economy on a longer run was poor - not a whole lot better than the SC. We sold the car after a year (in part because RR insurance costs in London went through the roof). We now have a 110 Defender X, P400 - and love it. Perfect for our usage. We'll be back to a RR one day though.
