Intermittent Headlight

Well my problem is pretty much as it says in the title. The drivers side headlight is intermittent - why do I know? because today I was sat in the car with the lights on and the light just went off and on then stayed on.

Stan already suggested I check for a loose connection but I cant find one so anyone got any other ideas? Geoff

further to my loose connection suggestion geoff, i think the bulb might be failing , possibly the filament breaking down..

only way to check is to replace bulb and see... ... - .- -.

Re: Intermittent Headlight

Possibly a failing earthing stud under the front wheel arch liner, when this fails it does affect the relevant headlight. If it fails completely then you'll certainly know as may systems go offline with accompanying warnings all over the dash. I'd go for the HID lamp first as Stan says and if it still occurs take a look at the earth point. L405 SV Autobiography LWB SDV8, finished in Aston Martin China Grey by ETO division.

Actually there is another fault appeared and its a parking sensor problem, apparently they are not working. Failed about the same time as the Headlight became intermittent so I will check the earth stud - when I find it!! Geoff

Whichever side headlight is playing up, remove the front section of the arch liner on the same side as the faulty headlight and check the earth mounting stud, there will be 4 earths to the stud (2 eyelets with 2 cables attached to each eyelet). Give it a bit of a tug and it'll probably fall off. I seem to recall that the ABS module is affected by the o/s earth and is one of the first things to flag a fault. Nearside is PDC sensors, headlight and low coolant/bonnet open faults.

Had this on the o/s on my L494, https://www.rrsport.co.uk/forum/topic59386.html which is the same wiring etc. lost speedo, ABS, gearbox and a whole load more items.

Have a look at https://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic62384.html

Prudent to check both sides as if one's about to fail the other wont be far behind. I got the official LR replacement earth post and used that, but you could use a rivnut or even the nearest mounting bolt (for the accelerometer) as an earthing point. L405 SV Autobiography LWB SDV8, finished in Aston Martin China Grey by ETO division.
