I want to remove my parcel shelf handle to refinish it.

There's a black cover underneath however some tugging and prodding with some trim removal tools didn't budge it.

Didn't want to break it so thought I'd better ask around...

Anyone done this?

Its no glued or bonded,just clips on. Prise around the edges of the back part and you will find that it will spring off. 2011 4.4 tdv8 Kahn. 2007 supercharged with 2012 lights and overfinch body kit. P38 with a full J.E.Engineering conversion

Ooh what's your plan for refinishing? are you doing anything with the shelf too or just the handle?

Hi Folks. I know this thread is a few years old now but it is the only info I could find on removing the cargo shelf handle so I figured that it was worth posting my experience to help anyone thinking of refinishing their own handle.
The handle is made in 2 parts i.e. the black lower part and the painted upper part which gets damaged and looks scruffy.
If you place the shelf on a clean work surface, upside-down so that you can see the black part of the handle. Then using a large flat blade screwdriver, place the blade under the edge of the handle that runs parallel to the box section to lift the black part of the handle away from the shelf. It does take quite a bit of force and a plastic trim tool can help you to get a better bite once it starts to pop off. Then gradually work your way around the 8 retaining clips. I did break one clip as you will see in the photos but it went back together just fine with 7 clips.
I had planned to repaint my handle but I cleaned the old paint off with acetone and found that the base plastic body colour was a close enough colour for me so I just wet sanded it and polished it with a mop and cutting compound. This makes it less likely to get scratched and chipped. Hope this helps. See photos if they upload.
