L322 4.4 TDV8 AC Condenser Replacement Procedure?

2011 L322 4.4 TDV8 113k miles: I had my RR regassed 2 months ago by my local Indy garage while he was replacing my rear shocks. He reported that some gas was still present (last gassed over 2 years ago) indicating no major leaks, but subsequently had no cooling action at all. All braced for a compressor change (for the well documented internal pressure sensing valve issue) I decided to have another AC pressure test by a local garage as my Indy being away on holiday. They reported that no gas was left in the system and after recharging with dye heard a hiss from AC Condenser area (they removed remaining gas) Stripping off the grill its clear that there is a leak in the bottom centre of the condenser (florescent dye visible under UV light etc.).

I've trawled the posts and can see a procedure for replacing the condenser on the 3.6 TDV8, but not the 4.4 TDV8 which is quite a bit different. The workshop manual procedure seems to remove everything i.e. viscous fan, full cooling module involving drain downs for fuel and cooling etc. and then its a pretty simple matter of stripping out the condenser etc. which is rather daunting - especially as we are off to France in a couple of weeks!

But is there an easier way with the cooling module still in the car?

Ive loosely asked the same question. Didnt really get an answer if its easier to remove the front or take off the fan etc.
Lets hope someones done it before and pops along soon ๐Ÿคž

Yes, thanks for those. I've watched both and both useful - plus another that showed the tools required to get the fan blade off. But the 4.4 is a bit different from 3.6, and to me with all the AC pipes and bracketry, it doesn't look like you can remove the condenser core with it in the car. (sort of confirmed by the LR workshop manual procedure).

It does look like a major strip down and whilst at it, it would probably be prudent to change both belts and possibly AC compressor at the same time as I've no guarantee that the hole in the condenser is the only AC issue - and thats hoping that the other 'radiators' are not also past their best!

I think a delay till after our trip abroad is the least risky option, I wouldn't want to be stuck chasing fuel and coolant airlocks with a ferry to catch and it may be a job for my local Indy garage - if I can persuade him to do it!

Im half way through condenser and belts/tensioners. Front off is a big job but with all the jobs I thought it easier..the condenser would be a nightmare if left in situ. Ive now found my intercooler rotten too and rust running from my ac compressor and bearings noisy so Im balls-deep๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ.

Thats 4 hours in, its hanging like that because I had a bolt with a rotted head that holds the ac pipe to the fan cowl. That aside its just a lot of stuff to undoโ€ฆand its all been there 10+ years!!

Whilst there, it might be worth changing the water pump, crankshaft pulley and checking the PAS pipes for corrosion.

the first time i put my RR on the hoist, i looked up and saw the bottom of the condenser.
i thought, if i can see it, then stones bouncing off the road can damage it
there was some plastic pieces in front of it, which i thought was i bit iffy
i removed them and made some sheet steel ones
now you cant see it RR 2005 4.4 petrol
Any spelling mistakes are the fault of spellchecker

Hi all,
I have just joined the site as I am on the exact same job and having difficulty.
I too watched the videos mentioned above and decided to have a go at removing the condenser without taking the front off the car as it looked like it might be possible.
I am so close...all the condenser bolts are undone and the radiator faring extracted so it is free to move BUT the left hand pipe to small radiator (oil cooler?, not sure) in front of the condenser prevents me from lifting it vertically off the car as shownin the video for the earlier generation 322.
I now need to know what is involved in removing rogue small radiator.
