2017 5.0 SC - Aux heater fume/burning smell

Hi,

yesterday (after 2 years of working fine in my ownership) I remotely put on the Remote Climate from the. iPhone app. 15 mins later when I got to the car there was a smell in the air of fumes/burning smell and inside the car. It disappeared shortly after starting to drive. 2017 5.0l SC model.

Today I lifted the bonnet and activated it again. after a couple of seconds I could see a faint haze of fume/smoke coming from under the pipe circled in the picture. it was too faint for the iPhone to pic it up. It smelt of fumes/burn smell. I switched the system off.

It is making a whirring noice too. Not sure if normal as never really started it up before when I was next to the car. I made a YouTube video.

Is it a known issue /fix or new Aux heater unit needed?

thanks

Your problem will be finding members with 5.0's with the rare option I'm afraid sir... Let alone with the same issues... Neutral

as a follow up for any members with a similar problem in the future. I managed to fix it.

I bought the Gap tool and found the error code B1D33-92 Flame Interruption During Normal Operation - Performance or incorrect operation

With Gap I was able to live log and see that the flame was starting whilst the heater glow plug was active but after the glow plug switched off the flame went out and then the white smoke appeared whist the fan was still running.

Anyway the solution was the charcoal canister that is on the air intake of the petrol versions was blocked (normally cos the charcoal gets wet). Removing it and forcing the burner on a few more cycles eventually got it running again.

The charcoal filter is an evaporation filter to stop the smell of petrol after the system turned off. So the heater runs perfectly without it. Just the cabin smells on next startup when the cars been parked in the garage. About £250 for that filter but found NOS on eBay for £70.

Also worth to mention guys at Gap were super helpful in this once I sent them the fault code. Even sending me pre release build with testing operations that Topix mentioned to run on the FBH. BTW they are now in the current firmware.
