Cleaning injectors via ultrasonic?

Hello all,

Admittedly, i've not been around here much lately as I have just had soo much on and the most stressful time of my life this year. No pity please....I am sure many are in the same boat!

Anyway...

To add to the stress.. I recently had the inlet manifold on my 3.6 TDV8 L322 blow.

Along with that.. I had noticed some brutal fuel economy on the car - 14.5 MPG urban and motorway!

Along with a full service and resolving a sticking rear caliper. I am wondering about any tests/work I can do on the injectors while they are out.

I have an ultrasonic cleaner and wondering about using that, as they seem to be useful for that.

Note:
- I don't plan on disassembling the injectors
- The car was running fine before the manifold burst

Shall I:

1. Leave them alone and put them back as I took them out.
2. Toss them into some injector cleaner and into the ultrasonic (how long?)
3. Only place the tips of the injectors into and not whole body into the ultrasonic.

Do I need to pulse the injectors while in ultrasonic bath - or is static ok?

Can I assume that if I place the injectors into ultrasonic the spray pattern will be improved if there was an issue.. or do I still need to test them. How?

Thanks a lot all. (07) 2007 3.6 TDV8 L322 - 135k miles.

When the injectors were removed from my 4.2SC I sent them to MrInjector who spray tested them all for me. A couple weren't quite up to spec so they were all cleaned and rebuilt and sent back to me with a before and after report.

Whilst they're out of your car it might be worth sending them to an injector specialist for checking. I'd recommend MrInjector but they only do petrol ones unfortunately. 2002 4.6 Vogue SE - Alveston Red with Lightstone Leather

Send them to a specialist if you take them out, they will have all the specialist tools / test rigs to overhaul and test the injectors. the tools / gear used are definitely not tools people have in their garage at home !!

my advice is the same, if you are in London next time, take them to CFI, they are the best Smile

Train is 1 hour and Liverpool St to Colchester - then a cab to CFI

they did mine and 4 of the injectors needed tweaking to get optimum performance, 2 needed replacing and 2 were good, the problem is our injectors in Range Rovers are not cheap, so do this first before getting new ones. For my 4.4 car new injectors were £250 quid each - ouch !

Thanks everybody.

I've decided i'm not going to bother doing anything with them if I can't do it myself.

The engine was running fine prior to starting this job so I don't see the need to spend a load of money getting them tested.

I was wondering if I could just stick them in the ultrasonic myself, but it turns out that sometimes this can have negative side effects.

I'm going to leave well enough alone tbh. (07) 2007 3.6 TDV8 L322 - 135k miles.

@Dhallworth question for you.

Did you only get your injectors tested because your SC wasn't running great? Or is it something you would do regardless, once they are on the bench ?

Cleaning injectors via ultrasonic?

Ultrasonic cleaning is a highly effective method for cleaning fuel injectors. It uses high-frequency sound waves to create microscopic bubbles that can penetrate small passages in the injectors, removing carbon buildup, dirt, and other contaminants that can impede fuel flow. This method restores injectors to optimal performance without the need for harsh chemicals.

Sorry Conor, I didn't see your question.

I had mine out of the car whilst I had the cylinder heads off it. I was doing so much to it (new heads, new cams, rebuilt supercharger, supercharger pulley, etc.) that I figured as the injectors were all originals from 2007 I may as well send them to be tested and cleaned.

There was nothing notably wrong with them, it was more a "whilst they were off" as there was a lot of stripping down to do to get back to them if I needed to.
