update and a question arise Smile

I scheduled in 10 days a smoke test, it's August, no free slots earlier

What is curious, according to the mechanics, the smoke test is low pressure and there is a high pressure vacuum test that is not smoke test but different type of test. What do you think?

I think I confirmed at least the issue is not a turbo drain mode. I drove for 3 days without going over 2k revs, that should have given it the time to fill up the second turbo. The last two days I drive aggressively with revs over 3k and monitored the back mirror - no smoke at all and no dpf error.

I am preparing to disassemble hoses and donut this weekend to have a look. At least if I break something I will know it after the smoke test next week Very Happy

One question arose these days. The last 3 times I got dpf error was about 40 minutes of driving after each forced regen. Now I am driving 30 minutes per day for over a week and still don't have it. Hate mysteries Laughing l322 2011 4.4 TDV8 Autobiography Black

I say this quite often but it's worth checking the drain back valve directly under the oil filter itself is on it's locating post.
Mine came off resulting in exhaust smoke and heavy oil consumption. If yours is the same could it be blocking the dpf with excess oil?

I will be looking at that in the weekend if I succeed in removing the parts to reach that place.
What exactly looks like and where to find this drain valve? Is somewhere on the part I circled in red in the picture below?

Just unscrew the filter mate. The filter itself presses down on it. Dead easy just to rule it out.

If you are not getting the problem now - it would be a good idea to get an IIDTool and to monitor the sooting in the DPF while driving.

This will give you an understanding of the car's behaviour.

Without this info it is very difficult to diagnose what is happening.

Abbreviated long story as i know the reason for the original cause over a year ago (lowish fuel and nightmare journey), but having had mine go into limp mode numerous times and then being force regened for it all to happen again a month later i finally bit the bullet and took the dpf off (only 2 cuts on tailpipe as my local place has a machine big enough to put the whole front section in after unbolting from cat/turbo), not had and issue since (that was March) , check it's all working now and again with gap tool and all tickety boo, be very careful with forced regens and resets of system as they often don't work properly and can cause other parts of the system to overheat (I cooked RH O2 sensor on my last and far too long attempt at a forced regen), tkae it off , have it properly cleaned and do longer journeys , as anothe rposter said 30 mins a day is not enough , take it out once every couple of weeks for a 30/60 min run above 50 .

Update - I did a smoke test and the mechanics said no issues. So the troubleshooting continues.

matthews, I hope I won't have to take it off as well though I don't discard that option. Unlike UK folks that I think based on the comments are living more in a countryside/medium cities, I am in a big city and almost daily drive. I try to bring the family in the nature during weekends but some weekends that is not much of a highway.
I know the guys do not recommend a dpf-ed diesel for such lifestyle, but I just cannot imagine a petrol engine for almost 3 tones car, it is weird to me.

I am wondering, what if I buy an OBD tool to do the regens myself when I see I go over 20% for example? I can do my normal 20 mins journey, but on the 5th minute the car is already warmed up, I can set it and drive for 20 minutes until I get the regen. I can do that without much hindering my daily routine. And I will probably have to do one such regen per week or two? l322 2011 4.4 TDV8 Autobiography Black

For a daily 30min city driver the 5.0SC is a much better choice. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Hi Georgi, your problems are definitely not helped by living in the city, and possibly that is the cause if you are just doing short drives in traffic.

Forced regens are designed to be used as an emergency measure. For this reason it took years until we were able to get the the functionality added to the IIDTool.

Performing forced regens as a regular measure is not a good idea - it has been suggested this will create other problems, like damage to the DPF ceramic matrix. I strongly recommend you do not Force Regen regularly. Baltic Blue has some experience of this I think?!

Clean out all the soot and muck, dirt, gunk and all hoses around the donut area, and throttle body and then make sure you do an EGR delete - many guys in Sofia will be able to remap your car at the same time, clean the MAP sensor every 1000 miles, and if your car is anything like mine you will very happy with that 4.4 engine Smile

Leave the DPF - let it do its job !

Hi guys, update - I just touched the engine bay for the first time ever Smile

Regarding the wrong car, I drive daily in the city and do go out of town in the weekend after all. Besides I get dpf full after 40-50 minutes, that is not normal behavior even for a diesel dpf.

Regarding the photos - have in mind I did leave the car at Bardhal 2 months ago for some kind of intake cleaning so it is normal it has not an inch of soot in the hoses.

Here is engine bay at startup :

The part before the throttle body was quite dirty below. I do think that it leaks as I felt some movement when I installed it back. I think I read somewhere that the little greenish resin might need changing.
What do you think?

Here is the throttle body. I watched the below video from a mechanic I follow lately on youtube. He has some very interesting troubleshooting scenarios. I like that he seeks the cause. Not like the butchers that want to remove my dpf Smile
Based on the video it is ok. Its normal position is opened. I think that means working, what do you think?
I push with little effort to close it and it comes back with some kind of mechanical rotating sound which I think comes from the motor that is connected to it. From that I presume it should be working.










Cleaned with brake cleaner the hose, the gadget between the hose and the throttle body and the throttle body itself as far as I can reach with a cloth. I can't find the pic of the throttle body right now but it turned out well compared to the initial state.

I checked the maf sensor that I cleaned a month ago and it is as I left it:

Just by curiosity I checked the air filters and the hoses that come out from them. The filter compartment seemed clean on the right, did not open the one on the left. The left hose was clean but the hose on the right appeared humid inside, not sure if that is normal:

At the end cleaned the car as I just got the new wheels as it came with some that I did not like and bought online second hand the original autobiography ones.





After all was not that scary Laughing Though I have not arrived to the donut yet heh.

another update

I forgot to write that I checked the oil filter as someone suggested. I don't know what is the normal functioning so I made a video. I push the little half-ring that I think has the spring below to push it back upwards and it comes back. That means all is fine and the part is not lost or broken, right?
