Just received my letter also. Looks like we will still be waiting a few months until we can get the update though. I did try to see if the local JLRMD would let me book in but they replied rather oddly saying that I must have received the letter by mistake as there is no update available for MY16 cars. The usual ‘Service Advisor’ not being able to advise very well. Based on their service being booked up for 2 months plus at any time I thought if I booked now it would be Oct/Nov and the update would have been released.

My car was registered August 2015. I've just received a letter as well. So slightly off topic, but what is MY16?

Ta. Thumbs Up

Thanks Ash, that’s what I suspected I guess, so why have I received a letter? I thought it is only MY16 onwards.

I think it is a specific VIN range and so it maybe picks up some late MY15 cars in that list too.

United States

Is this UK only?

I just bought mine secondhand in US so probably not going to get any letters anytime soon.

Got my letter today, along with faraday pouch and invitation to get the sleepy batteries.

No idea - but its certainly in full swing here in the UK - got my letter/pouch last week too. US often get safety recalls that never get done in the UK - there's less of a culture of litigation here. But there is a bottom line sales incentive on the security issue because JLR products have become uninsurable in the UK so they had to do something to defuse the situation. Are JLR OK to insure in the states? If no worse than any other car I doubt you'll get the update.... Mike - MPx

Might as well jump on this thread, I spoke to JLR to other day asking if my 20MY was due the security update ?? told me no (4.4 AB) thought at least they'd offer me a free pouch and sleeping batteries.... oh well Big Cry

@Big Vee:

From the Land Rover website:

“ How do I know if my key is a UWB smart key?

The UWB smart key was introduced from 18 Model Year (MY) on select vehicles and is provided with all vehicles from 21MY onwards. To identify if your key has UWB technology is the badge on the rear of the key fob. Faraday pouches are not needed if UWB technology is in use. If you are unsure if your smart key has UWB technology, please contact your local Retailer.”

(UWB = Ultra Wide Band)

Could be your vehicle already has the update, check your keyfob, but worth asking that as a specific question, dealers do get things wrong! You may also be able to check with your VIN on the LR website, others will advise.

I was told by the sales manager that in the case of my car MY21 if I left the keys in the car (both apparently) and locked the car with the inControl app that would wipe the keys memory and £1200 to recode. Anybody else heard of this ? 2021 SVautobiography Dynamic Black

I didn't think it was possible to lock the car with the smart key inside, although I haven't tried Whistle 2017 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography
