My teenage daughter, who is becoming a petrolhead, has been bugging me for a while to get a second car, maybe an old Rolls or something American with fins. So I was on Instagram, as you do, and this popped up.

Hi, they're very much like the L322 in that almost everything is available through the used spares market.

I had an itch a couple of years ago and bought this. I know they cause a little division regarding looks but it has been a dream to own and take away a couple of times a year the last being the battlements in Normandy and beaches which my Dad was involved in 80yrs ago. It turns out to be the most economical car I own always seeming to averaging 27mpg on 1000+ mile jolly’s.

Spotted this on eBay earlier, someone upgrading the front end to the new shape RR for £24k. Really just really.

There's a few shots on this Insta reel: https://www.instagram.com/p/C-VfHQ1if4V/
Yes, it came from Flying Spares, a Rolls Royce breakers and spares company. I never saw so many of them in one place and in various stages of dismantlement. Looks like they have everything. 2017 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography in black 2018 D300 SE Velar in champagne Spiffing wheel centre caps, L322 sill repair panels, etc |

Could this make them the most truly eco-friendly vehicle around still? When you look at how modern cars are almost disposable assets surely the fact there’s still these sorts of cars around is to be encouraged and celebrated. It’s a shame really that older cars are not incentivised in the road tax system to help prolong the life cycle of such vehicles. J |

They are, this is tax-free as there's a rolling 40-year exemption, and this car is now 42. You don't have to have them MOTd either, although people tend to. I have an "Any car" insurance policy, so tax, MOT and insurance is £0.

Hi, yes sorry should have been clearer as I have a couple of 40+ year old cars myself - I suppose I meant if you take something like my 2007 L322 there’s a lot of people would consider getting rid when it comes to the £700 per year road tax - at 17 years old these types of cars will end up one of two ways - if they have owners willing to spend what they need then this too could one day end up being a “classic” - if not they are destined for the crusher

I’m seeing you more as Elton John in his Corniche convertible, wearing a straw boater and dancing with Bruno Tonioli on the beach Stan
