Scotland 2012 Range Rover Westminster TDV8 Fuji White

Worst of the worst case scenario, good used engine from Flying Spares £9.8k inc vat. for Shadow II.

And you don't have the complex 4 x 4 drive train to deal with so I don't see a Rolls costing any more than a fatty in the long term.

Just the Citroenesk syspension system and miles of corrofing pipework.

Especially '84 or earlier cars, I may be interested if I could find a rot free last of the Shadow II in a nice blue.

Well, it didn't take long to conk out. It still didn't start, and nobody local wanted to touch it so I decided to DIY. How complex can 42-year-old electrics be I thought?

I found a Rolls Royce forum and there's a brilliant chap on there who has helped me. Turns out the old Opus ignitions are pants and most people have replaced them with a better electronic one over the years. Mine was original, and faulty. They are £250 from Flying Spares, but a poke about online with the right part number yields one at £120 from the US. Got to test the ohms on the coil and maybe replace that too, so when that stuff arrives, I *might* be wafting again. I am going to add Rolls Royce mechanic to my CV now. Assuming it actually starts when I've fitted the new stuff. 2017 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography in black

I thought I'd update this. Still got the Rolly, but I'm about ready to sell it if anyone fancies one.

On the cold start issue above, a new electronic ignition, rotor arm and coil solved that.

I had my second "coming home on an AA transporter" incident the other night, fuel pump conked out. £120 on eBay for a new one so that is a job for a weekend. Not a terribly complex job.

The first "coming home on an AA transporter" incident was me filling it up with V Power diesel instead of petrol. The pumps look the same is my excuse. A bloke relieved me of £200 to drain it and wafting resumed.

I decided to try a Clarksonesque style video with it for fun. Some might enjoy it.

a great watch Stuart. Well done for keeping some of our great heritage alive. I am a big fan of the Bentley Turbo R's myself.

Yes, I've always fancied a Turbo R myself. I think when I next get the itch, I might try one of those. 2017 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography in black

I'm not sure, Stephen. I haven't had cause to remove a wheel as yet. The hub caps are secured by an anti-tamper kind of bolt, though. Quite forward-thinking for the time I thought.

Enjoyed watching that , always fancied one, but have a really needy Porsche that’s taking a small fortune in parts . Better update the thread on that Mr. Green
