New Zealand 2015 Range Rover HSE SDV8 Firenze Red
L405 cylinder heads leaking

My 2014 SDV8 has been trouble free, by and large, for 7 years and 223K km. Yesterday boiled up going up a steep ski road. Probably drove 3km with low coolant level red triangle (not seen). Stopped with some steam and hot antifreeze smell coming from back left hand side of engine way down. Tried to put in about 10 litres of water slowly as engine cooled. No joy, couldn't fill it but nothing coming out underneath. Engine still runs sweet but only ran it to drive on and off recovery truck and into my garage workshop. Loud gurgling can be heard in expansion bottle when engine running . Started to take off intake manifold now. Had previously changed the oil cooler in the V at about 140K km as leak between the cooler and block.
I need to know if the heads can be removed with the engine in place. Also need to know how to lock timing gears. If the engine has to come out then the vehicle is scrap as I can't do it at 70 years old and we live quite remote. If it can be done, what parts will I need and best source. I have used Island 4x4 and found them good. Any help appreciated.

United Kingdom 2016 Range Rover SVAutobiography SDV8 Corris Grey

There are some pictures of the cam locking tools in my ealier post at: -

I'm afraid I can't help on whether heads can be removed in situ as I had to pull the entire unit out for crank failure. I've listed part numbers for the tools somewhere in the post. LR state heads cannot be machined and should be replaced, but I managed to get 4 thou taken off and they're fine. Just hit 15K since rebuild.

Anything I can help with, please feel free to ask! L405 SV Autobiography LWB SDV8, finished in Aston Martin China Grey by ETO division.
