N/S/F drive shaft

Hi
I have got an issue with my FF, In Dec my FF started to throw the n/s/f drive shaft out.
So i got her home the pushed the shaft back in and all good for a few days then boom out again.
So got a new shaft with a new snap ring fitted it and all good for a full week, then Sunday it went again.
I have had a look at replacing the front diff but its a big job on the road out side the house.

So my question is do any of you have any reconditions where i can get it fitted and do you think i am going down the right path?

All the best and thanks in advance

by the way i am in Yate Bristol. L322 TDV8 2011 Autobiography

If you are saying the driveshaft is coming out of the front diff I would think that would only be possible if one of the control arms were broken? But then the car would be undriveable. Kevin

Hi Epson Green

like you say about the control arms, yeah all good there.
Around two years ago the car did had the diff replaced by the garage i brought the car from, Diff whining.
When i fitted the new drive shaft i had a look at the 4 bolts that hold the diff to the sump, and found that the bolts had come lose. Ok they are only done up to 50nm then 90* but i thought "yes that's the problem". So done them up and put the new shaft in, but like a say a week later out it came.
So my last thought is there is something in side the diff that has worn and moving around, so i am down to a diff change.

The strange thing is those the diff on the car did not make any noise before it started pushing its drive shafts out. Still booked into a garage Wednesday 6/3/24.

Many thanks L322 TDV8 2011 Autobiography

Good afternoon all
So my saga continues!!!!
After 2 new drive shafts and a new/recon front diff its still throwing the shaft out.
All the n/s suspension has been replaced, so no movement on the wheel side. I just don't know what else to do.

Thanks L322 TDV8 2011 Autobiography

Just thinking outside the box, do you think there is some misalignment due to a crash or something affecting the diff mounting and it's relationship to the wheel hub ?

Or could it be a bush / bracket in the diff mounting area gone bad forcing the diff away from the hub, missing spacer somewhere.

Just thinking that if the shaft is in and done up tight, for it to fall out something must be moving under stress or be missing in the first place or bent out of true.

You could try taking some very accurate measurements of the diff to hub distances and the front track as accurately as you can and comparing that to an identical car.

What does it look like from the front, wheels straight on level ground, does it look like the car is actually straight, should be able to tell if you can photograph and check the wheel inset compared left and right, are they identical or is the NS wheel / hub actually secured in the wrong place.

Pattern parts will be your problem. I guarantee the pattern parts are slightly shorter than the originals. It's been documented on here somewhere before I'm sure.

I'd be trying a genuine LR used shaft from eBay or buying a genuine LR one and I'd put money on it not happening again.
