TD6, VIN 6A202xxx

Hi. Had a fault come up on the dash - HDC inoperative and suspension lowered. GAPIId tool reported error 0x21 - front left ABS sensor open circuit. Ordered a new sensor SSF500011 (although the one delivered was labelled SSF500011R).

Managed to get the old sensor out and fitted new. Fault has now cleared, but it seems that the ABS is trying to lock the brakes - have hardly managed to get off the drive.

The reluctor ring in the hub looks OK - rotated the hub while peering down the sensor hole with a torch and the ring looks intact and clean. I don't think the GAPIId tool gives lives values for the ABS sensors.

Unplugged new sensor and original problem returns as expected, and brakes not locked.

Anyone experienced this before? Any ideas?

Is the speedo working correctly? I had similar and it was traction control coming on as it thought 3 wheels were spinning, as no speed feed from one wheel, though as you say, rear left feeds the speedo…..

If you keep trying to accelerate does it stay the same or does it cut engine power?

Is the colour of your new sensor plug the same as the one on your car? I had the same problem with a new sensor. There seems to be a difference even though the plug is compatible.
I bought a new blue Bosch sensor for my TD6 which fixed the problem.

GRANGEROVER - The new sensor plug is a different colour - one is blue and the other green. Do you still have a part number for the Bosch one you got? Have wondered about getting a LR original one but it is expensive if it also doesn't work.

Measure the resistance of the working abs sensor against the new one to check its the correct one.

Different models and different years have different sensors, pain in the arse when someone confirms that it's the right one and actually isn't.

If you have a green sensor it will definitely not work. I tried that two times and I had the exact problem that the car wouldn't drive.

The Bosch sensor has the number BOSCH 0 986 594 663.

The moral of the story is, if you've got a TD6, ignore the supplier online parts diagrams that say that your VIN needs a SSF500011 sensor, it needs to be a SSF000011 one. The latter should have a blue connector which matches the blue connector on the car.

So I have two shiny almost-never-used SSF500011 sensors up for grabs, if anyone is interested!
