That sounds like a DPF problem, they're not made to do short distances, you have to drive long distances once in a while with the new diesels to clean the particulate filter out and by driving short distances it never has the time to do that so if you do a lot of short distances buy a petrol.

As CSK says, you have to get the vehicle hot enough so that the DPF can burn off the particulates and soot it has filtered out.

It's going to be an issue for some time as rules are tight and there just isn't an alternative at the moment to a DPF on a diesel in order to get the tail pipe emissions as clean as it needs to be. So all new deisels for the forseeable future will have the DPF. You can remove it, but that may cause problems when the vehcle needs an MOT as the "smoke test" which forms part of a diesel MOT is being tightened up for later vehicles. This is due to lots of people (with cars of all different makers) removing the DPF. It's quite common for people to have problems and get them removed, then weld the exhaust back up. Basically if you do short trips only you are better off with a petrol. Shame the only petrol Range Rover is also the most expensive and depreciates faster. |

The dealer has gotten back to me! Apperently it was not only the dpf, the engine has been leaking oilmin to the turbos and has damaged them so the turbos as well as the dpf has to be exchanged! This will cost more or less 10-20000 pounds, in total they have soon repared my car for £50000, this is why we now are discussing sending the car back and giving me a s/c 2012 instead. 2011 tdv8 autobiography bournville / Arabic

What's the point of buying a Diesel when you have to drive around for the sake of cleaning the DPF?
