So unfortunately some drunk dickhead last night crashed into a car behind my beloved parked RR and that went into the back of my RR.

After some disassembly this morning the damage is as follows:

bumper and sensors need replacing,

the bar behind needs replacing since the bumper locating tabs are all bent funny but am sure I could unbend them

tailgate was slightly dented

Personally I would look at the costs of a DIY/no claim repair.

Even a "no fault" claim thesedays counts against you at renewal time & RR's are getting more & more expensive to insure (if you can get them insured at all).

Personally I'd fix it myself, if none of the chassis rails were bent or damaged, they are designed to crumple in servere impacts.

Just looking on fleabay just now, a number of rear bumper shells available with or without sensors under £150. If you're lucky you might find one in the same colour,

The bumper plates themselves you'll need to straighten carefully, or you could also just buy a replacement from a breakers.

Tailgate, depends on the damage, it could knock out or fill, or again, replacements from breakers easy to find.

If you're lucky, you could get the lot for under £400, don't know what your excess might be but likely to be around the same plus you may lose your no claims which will be much worse.

If you can get the person who hit you to cough up cash, say a grand, then you could actually be quids in.

yeah am leaning towards doing it myself.

my tailgate and upper boot lid need doing anyway from rust so this is kinda the perfect excuse.

i completely forgot about the no claims thing as well

think ill just go that way.

Cat N write off. Nothing structural or suspension damaged. Purely cosmetic

Bumper, headlight, bonnet, wing, slam panel, fog light, washer bottle, park sensors + wiring, hidden plastics, paint cost, labour

Yeah, once you add up original parts and labour costs it soon mounts to stupid money.

As long as there's no chassis damage or twist which will ramp up costs massively if jig time needed, and your reasonably good on the tools you can source used parts and do the job for a fraction of the cost, then you just need to fork out for Pro Paint at the end.

I'm not sure how you get the Insurance CAT lifted though, perhaps it stays with the car records, but if you intend keeping the car then don't suppose it matters till you come to sell it.

So I go LR, get a quote

Also get a quote for my M5, thankfully just a door respray.

Then ring his insurance and make a claim, avoids losing no claims and excess Its actually a sport

If it's going through his insurance, you will still need to declare it to your own - they will find out about it and it can still affect your future premiums.....

When you come to renew yours, you'll be asked whether you have had any accidents or claims. Insurers share this type of information. I can't see how you can avoid declaring it once it's entered by another party.

An accident, even with no claim, can affect your premium, but it's a bit of a black art, so also may not.
