Personally I would look at the costs of a DIY/no claim repair.

Personally I'd fix it myself, if none of the chassis rails were bent or damaged, they are designed to crumple in servere impacts.

If it's going through his insurance, you will still need to declare it to your own - they will find out about it and it can still affect your future premiums..... |

When you come to renew yours, you'll be asked whether you have had any accidents or claims. Insurers share this type of information. I can't see how you can avoid declaring it once it's entered by another party.
