ok will start with the front of the engine wash down with brake cleaner.
Is it the case then just wash away with water ?
My son uses a Karcher diesel steam cleaner in his business so would it be ok to use this after the brake cleaner has done its work ?

The brake cleaner will just wash the oil off and it will drip down under the car so just make provision for that. No need to wash it off as it will evpourate so don't do it in an enclosed space. Never liked steam cleaning in engine bays as the water gets into the electical connectors. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Ok just an update
Oil leak was definitely only coming from 2 x o-rings £4.56 for 5 from ebay, have uploaded a couple of photos for reference
BS611 - 8.73mm ID x 1.78mm C/S
Have done approx 500 miles since changing and absolutely no loss of oil
Cleaned engine down as much as possible with brake cleaner obviously impossible to clean completely but in the last couple of days the dreaded oil burning smell from the engine has finally gone
Again thanks for everyone's comments and advice

Well unfortunately o-rings haven't solved the oil leak as I thought, unless changing them caused a leak elsewhere as ended up still leaking oil.
So decided to change complete oil cooler, stripped down yesterday and awaiting replacement delivery today.
Then disaster strikes, I go and snap coolant pipe which causes coolant to shoot out of hole where oil cooler sits, I managed to stem flow but not before a small amount drained into engine.
So can anyone help with the following ?
1. has anyone part number for snapped plug/pipe
2. should I take this opportunity to do an engine oil change to be safe because of the coolant contamination.
3. do i drain from sump or use a pump ?
Many thanks in advance for any help

I would do an oil/filter change anyway. I used a pump and it appeared to get most of the oil out.

Good luck 👍

Hi, Oil floats on water so assuming the extraction tube goes to the very bottom of the sump it should pull the water out before the oil so you may be safe.

However, if the extraction tube does not go to the very bottom then your going to be leaving water in there no matter how much you suck out.

I'd recommend sucking everything out via the tube and when it's all out, removing the sump drain plug just for the last remains and any water sat in the bottom.

If you just suck it out as I say, you are likely to be leaving a little water in there.

Filter you'd replace anyway and cheap as chips so just replace it.

The extraction tube connects to the sump drain plug so it gets as much out as if it had a sump plug. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)
