Where to buy bonnet and tailgate lettering?

Hi all,
Preparing for a tailgate repaint and full polish of my 2009 RR and trying to find new none original lettering in titanium as the rear letters will be removed.

Any advice of where you've been successful or know where others bought the letters? Been searching on the forum and found the below 4 options.

PowerfulUK don't sell them anymore.
SuperTweaks don't allow me to pay with card.
AliExpress has quite wider offering which makes it hard to tell what's good and bad.
Ebay.co.uk similar to AliExpress.

Need some clear pointers to maybe a specific ebay account if anyone has advice Bow down

Do they make a distinction between bonnet and the tailgate? I understand the bonnet letters are curved.

Thanks for the advice! Very Happy 2009 L322 4.2 Supercharged

Nope, they were both the same - I replaced both bonnet and tailgate.

I bought the same. Perfect match for mine though the template was 5mm too close to each letter. See my RR thread for a picture.

Thanks for the advice! Very Happy

The bonnet and tailgate have a different curve which means they should be different hence the different part numbers. It is very slight so I guess you can get away with it (if you dont look too closely) but when you look at the letters close up and side by side the difference is obvious.

Is it that the letters you've got are still ok and only being removed due to tailgate repaint?

If that's the case, couldn't you just have them removed, then renew the 3M tape on the back of them and re-attach?

I think Batfink has the right idea - exactly what I did with about £20 of materials (paint and tape) - looks correct and obviously reuses the original parts. What’s not to like Very Happy

Yes, the letters are OK. The guy helping me said there's a risk they will brake when he will remove them, I don't think he have done it before.

As I'll do the repaint first, I can ask him to be careful and buy the lettering removal kit and template from powerfulUK for him.

Are there any particular 3M adhesive tape that are used? 2009 L322 4.2 Supercharged

Get him to use a bit of heat (hair dryer or hot water) on them to loosen the glue, then use some dental floss or fishing string behind them to remove them.

Lots of info if you have a look at YouTube

So long as he doesn’t have hands like an ape then there’s not really much chance of breaking them, as already said a little nylon wire or whatever will ensure they come off without much fuss.

I seem to recall using this stuff to reattach;

https://amzn.eu/d/5ZKAKBh

You just have to get rid of all the old tape in the recess of the letters but it’s better than spending £50+ on new ones. You can even get the correct paint mixed up if you can be bothered but so long as you go with a reasonable matching paint they’ll be fine.

It’s fiddly and time consuming but I’d say worth it.

Thanks!

Did you recall using 6.35mm or 12.7mm? 2009 L322 4.2 Supercharged

Hi just double checked my Amazon order from 2022 and it was 6.35mm

It fits quite well into the recess on the reverse side of the letters - bit fiddly as you'll need a sharp knife and cut a few small bits for the E and so on but it worked fine and so far they are still stuck to the bonnet - the most important thing to do is to make sure that the bonnet is squeaky clean before trying to attach.

The tailgate rust is now gone and it looks great Very Happy So tomorrow I'll use the tape to get the letters back on the tailgate before the car is sent in for polish and ceramic treatment.

Any advice on how to prepare the surface of the letters and the tailgate before taping it back? I'm removing the old glue thinking if I should clean the surface of the letters with all purpose cleaner or some alcohol or if water to remove the dust/dirt is enough?
