On my L405 and 640d, each diesels and an 8 speed box, when they are cold they are both a bit clunky at slow speeds, particularly if you let off the throttle and coast up to something … its like the engine braking is harsh on the change down. It loosens off when things are warmed up though. I just figure it’s a symptom of the engine and gearbox programming when cold and being warmed up. V8 or else ...

I have this with mine but it is a P530.
The throttle map/gearbox map and probably several other ECUs need improving.
Make your dealer investigate and when they say to you it is just a characteristic of the car insist that they feed it back up to JLR. letters not necessarily in the right order

I had a harsh change down on my L405 5.0 S/C when slowing to a rest but my p530 is always very smooth.
