I reset mine after each oil and filter change even though I only do a full service, air and pollen and fuel filters every 2nd year, because it resets the oil/ fuel dilution calculation figure, for the new oil to zero.

I was a little surprised that they didn't reset as I had intended to when I was about to change the oil myself but didn't bother as it was going in for the oil cooler replacement. Not sure whether I should reset it myself now or just leave it as is until it's annual service in November. _______________________________________________

I just did an oil change (6months) and just reset mine. Have it done every 12 months at Indy and they do MOT as well. They also reset to service indicator, I think oil condition is probably the most important thing on a service so why not reset it. Geoff |

So what would be the best way to reset miles to next service after changing the oil then? I have just tried to do it with an iCarSoft LR v3 and it wouldn't do it, error was 'failed to communicate'? Is there a better way to do it? _______________________________________________

I think it's pretty well documented I did something that involved opening the bonnet, cycling the ignition, opening the drivers door and pressing both pedals, seemed to work with no gadgets involved. Geoff |

Reset it. Oil dilution calculations have to be reset. They should know that.

Well done Kot, I think I used this video- simples- no need to bother with IDTool or iCarSoftLRv3 (whatever that is) Geoff |

Cheers Kot, followed the video, worked perfectly and mileage reset. I still dont understand why they did not reset when they knowingly had to change the oil but hey-ho, it is so easy to do now that I know I can do it myself. _______________________________________________

Changing the oil is only a small aspect of a service... There are many safety checks carried out at time of service and if the rest of the service and vital service checks were not carried out? Why would you expect a garage to reset the annual service light? Doesn't make sense to me sir...

If (as I always do) change the oil more often than required I do a reset if for nothing else that to turn of the annoying warning every time I start the car. I get the car serviced and MOTd annually anyway.

I understand the garages point of view and it makes perfect sense and I am indeed only thinking about the oil dilution potential. I have an annual service regardless of mileage so that covers pretty much everything else. I was only really curious as I will be doing my own oil change between services and just wanted to know if there was any particular reason why I wouldn't reset the mileage indicator then? _______________________________________________
