2018 L405 camera system failure

I’ve bought an approved used 2018 L405 P400e in Autobiography trim about a month ago and have started to experience technical problems. The latest and lasting one is a camera system failure.

Has anyone experienced this before?

Could it be related to doing only short trips (on mainly battery) so e.g. the 12V battery is running low and needs to be trickle charged? I’ve got a Noco Genius 10A so that’s no problem.

I’d just like to see if there is an easy fix before I make use of the nearest JLR dealership and waste a lot of time.

No I don't know the DCT but I've ordered an OBD reader to find out.

I couldn't find anything useful on the forum. The only thing I found was an erroneous parking camera module.

This morning for example the reversing camera worked when driving away from home but when I parked up the car a few minutes later at the station it was the usual fault. Below are a few pictures I took yesterday.

I’ve charged my battery last night but my Noco Genius 10 immediately did show that the charge was 4 out of 4 so that shouldn’t be the problem.

I’ve now bought an Autel AP200 to get the error code. First of all, Autel doesn’t recognised the P400e as its own model. Then I just chose the SDV8 model as the version and ran the diagnostics and got lots of error codes. The one related to the parking cameras is

4.1 U0046-83 Vehicle Communication Bus C - Intermittent

That error also appeared after clearing all other errors and after turning off and on the ignition nothing changed, the cameras still didn’t work.

Unless anyone has any other suggestions I’ll contact Land Rover to get an appointment to sort this out as it’s very annoying on such a big car to not have cameras. It’s all under warranty anyway.

Hoi! I resemble that remark! Rolling with laughter “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

No not an easy fix--- As its an approved vehicle you should have JLR warranty so no need to delve further yourself---take it in to the dealer.

In my WS manual it states your DTC as below

U0046-83 Vehicle Communication Bus C - Value of signal protection calculation incorrect
Invalid data received from another control module through the high speed CAN bus (chassis)

NOTE:
Do NOT install a new chassis control module as this will NOT rectify the fault
Using the Jaguar Land Rover Approved Diagnostic Equipment,
check the snapshot data to determine the invalid data source control
module. Check the relevant control module for related DTCs and
refer to the relevant DTC index

But as a matter of interest Rolling with laughter

Looking at my electrical drawing all camera's feed into the Camera control module -so could be a fault there?
Also could be faulty ground on that module?
Also there is a 5A fuse in rear JB (59R)
Also a Flex ray bus feed (Bus C?) from Assembly BCM-GWM (Body Control Module-Gateway Module) probably this giving your error code. 2018 SE SDV8 4.4 Byron Blue

Thanks a lot for your help, I shall proceed to get an appointment with the dealer to sort it out.

Hi,
My 2018 L405 SDV8 Auto has just developed a similar fault. Had an intermittent camera blip a week or so ago but now no cameras at all with "Cameras Not Available" displayed. Battery fully charged. Now one week out of warranty.
I would be interested in your fix if you would please post it.
Thanks. 2018 RR SDV8 Autobiography

Sadly I had to use the LR warranty and they replaced the front camera and the camera module and then it all worked again.

Thank you for your rapid response and I'm glad that your issue has been sorted.

Whilst I switched the ignition on and off a number of times (always a good starter for software issues) the problem persisted. I have left it for an hour or two and tried again and the problem has (for now) disappeared and the cameras are working fine. Perhaps it is a reminder of life on the edge, that being a Range Rover owner without a current warranty. Very Happy 2018 RR SDV8 Autobiography
