Anyone know what the part number is for the in tank fuel pump?

A diagram would help and maybe an idea of what's involved to change it?

The one that breaks you down when you have a quarter tank of fuel

Is it the pump or just a faulty gauge wiring?

If you search the forum, there are several examples of members who repaired the wiring themselves.

I got my local Indy to repair my wiring, it cost less than £200. -----------------------

That's a great question and I'm not sure. I broke down several months ago and recovered the car to a RR specialist. Since then I have made sure my tank is always half full.

It may well be the wiring but I'm not really sure.

There is a service bulletin about this somewhere. I had the same problem. It's caused by a faulty connector in the tank. I pulled the main pump, jet pump and senders out of the tank and cut off 2 or 3 connectors and soldered the wires together. Less than an hour and effectively a free fix.

Yes.

The tank is saddle shaped to give space for the propshaft. So on one side you have the main pump that delivers fuel to the engine and on the other side is a small pump that transfers the fuel over to the main pump side. The wiring connectors which dont even need to be there become loose over time being wiggled by the fuel sloshing around in the tank.

The reason your gauge still reads about a quarter tank when you run out of fuel is because there are two senders, one either side of the tank. The car takes an average of both and displays that on the gauge. So one empty, one half = quarter tank on the gauge.

So the main pump is running dry because the small pump isn't working. So that's either a failed jet pump or faulty wiring/connectors. I've never heard of the small (jet) pump fail and there's a bulletin for bad connectors so that's my bet.

You need to see that service bulletin, it's got pictures of the connectors to remove. Also, look up how to remove the pumps from the tank as you could break the mechanism that holds them in place if you're not careful.

To add, that service bulletin I seem to remember was for '10-'12 but mine is an 08 and I know of other earlier cars that had this problem too.
