New to me 2008 VSE TDV8 & lift!

I've been meaning to get something on here for a little while.

I bought a 2008 TDV8 VSE a few months ago as a project.

£2000, 134K miles. Java black.

It's got a few issues, usual rust on wheel arches and tailgate lip. It's been keyed all down one side and across the bonnet Sad

Bit of a screech when running which I thought would be tensioners/pulleys, but having done this, it's looking more like the power steering pump.

Small hole in the boot floor, inside not bad considering.

Loved driving it back home, different experience to 2016 D4 HSE Lux which I'm surprised at.

Also bought a car scissor lift to help with the project - it's a game changer! Bit scary with nearly 3 tonnes of RR on it, but various safety precautions. Highly recommend if you've got the space.

A few pics:

Rust, but welded:

More rust & also welded:

Transmission cover has no drain?

Leak from somewhere:

I'll try and keep you posted as I make progress!

It was from bhrepairs.co.uk - I'd done a bit of research and saw a recommendation on PistonHeads. The service was excellent, cost was reasonable; I'd considered two post lift, but in the end went with this. You can download a PDF off their website (I have no affiliation whatsoever!).

I'm sure there are better options, but at much greater cost, I've been massively impressed with it. Doing brakes, bodywork, etc. and not scrabbling on the floor is an absolute luxury.

The FFRR feels very big on it, particularly when you're underneath doing the gearbox!

It's brilliant though.

Excellent, thanks. I too want a 2 post, but currently am renting a workshop and dont really want to go to the expense of making the floor strong enough for the posts and installation, when in the next 3 years I hope to building a garage at home to my spec.

This would fit the bill.

Been thinking about one of those type of lifts myself. I'm getting to old for crawling around on the drive. And my garage doesn't have very much height anyway. (besides it being littered with a series 1 and a few bikes mostly)

The leak could be many things. Looks like black (?) engine oil ?
Mine has a intermittent oil leak from the intake/cylinder head cover on the LH side bank.
I replaced the diaphram thing in the crack case breather which did help.

You guys have balls of steel, 3 tonnes on what is essentially a few bits of 2 x 2 and some tiny wheels, not for me man.

It may well be super strong steel, but I'd never trust it to be honest, but that's just me, you boys carry on Bow down Fuji White / Jet 2012 4.4 TDV8 Westminster

I don't have an issue with the size of the steels themselves as they can take it with that design. My concern would be the two bolts at the pivot points which take all the stress in shear tension.

Mind you, I've been up 30M high warehouse racking storing thousands of pallets which you could feel wobbling about as you climbed the stairs and that was held together by way sketchier looking fixings and less substantial steels and that's not collapsed in a decade. Wasn't even bolted to the floor - completely freestanding. 2012 (L322) 4.4TDV8 Vogue SE, RSE, Fuji White over Arabica.

4 ton axle stands under each corner when underneath.

The benefit for me of such a lift isn't particularly about stuff underneath, it's about being able to do things at standing height (brakes, rust/body repair, etc.)

That said, even with the scissor, access to the gearbox and underside is surprisingly good, but I'm not brave enough to be under there without additional precautions.
