I really need to know now!

I also have the same screen, padlock with one diff. But what I have discovered Is that it has 3 stages of locking. Following a conversation with land rover, they say if the padlock is open and green then all diffs are open. Put it into rock crawl and you will see the padlock turn orange with 1 out of the 3 segments of the padlock illustrated. As more diffs begin to lock more segments turn orange.

I tested this. With wheels straight, low range and rock crawl selected I get 2 sections illuminated and an orange padlock. This means my cente and rear diff are locked. When I turn full lock right or left it unlocks the rear and keeps the centre locked, so I see 1 segment illuminated out of a possible 3.

I wonder if it was ever possible to have 3 locking diffs on a FF Question

Locking Rear Diff std on which models

Hi

I appreciate thi is an old thread however I am still non the wiser here

1) Is the locking rear diff just an option for all models?
2) Does the autobiography V8 diesel and V8 petrol have these as standard ?
3) Or ?

Any light you can shed as I want to buy one in my next L405 and it will help a lot if I don’t have to search for this as an option

Kind Regards
Michael

My 2013 4.4 SDV8 AB had a rear locker, but my current car (2014 5.5 SC) doesn't ... Confused Regards,

I tried to discover the same information while looking for an L405. I think the real answer is "there is no single answer". Whether it's not available, an option, or standard, seems to vary by trim level, engine, age and market.
I never found an easy way to determine if the car has a rear locker.

I would say the only way to confirm is to climb underneath and check for the engaging motor on top of the rear diff.

I may be wrong but if you look at the build sheet for a prospective car, then it is shown (well it is on mine).

I specced it on my P400e and I noted from the specific screen that the computer uses it a lot of the time, especially in the wet. I don’t use mine offroad but I imagine it would be game changer for that use case given my experience with regular lockers. I don’t know how much they weigh, but assuming negligible then the active centre diff lock is a no-brainer in all cases. It’s certainly useful in putting down a lot of torque, for which the SDV8 is a perfect example. L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso

My SDV8 Auto has an open diff on the rear.

I always presumed it was an option fit, rather than default. I dont mind to be honest. Means the front and rear diffs share the same fluid, so easy bought. V8 or else ...

quick question when you select the 4 wheel drive option and you see the diff locking up do you feel it (snagging best way to describe it) and do you get any noise when it engages ?

Short answer; no. BTW, you can’t select 4WD in a FFRR, it has permanent 4WD. There are a variety of selectable terrain options, which is perhaps what you mean?

Yea sorry was meaning that if you select rock crawl/low range there is a noise and judders a bit when you drive (i don't think its right).the diff circled flashes locked/unlocked and changes from green to orange/red colour when you drive off .....noticed this on test drive when checking everything out (photo not of actual screen )
