First thing to do is read the fault codes and proceed from there. Oil buildup in the 2nd turbo shouldn’t block the DPF. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Red restrictive performance

Hi JayGee

The only faults showing after clearance are relating to a brake light and indicator in the n/s light cluster and which actually are working. There is however a yellow triangle showing to the left of the dash before start -up. As i say the diagnostic gap tool is reading 24.2 for particles in the pdf.

Do you know what the forced regeneration procedure is using the gap tool and setting it for that. ie. set the tool to that and set off for a run until you get a motorway etc.?

Thanks

If the soot load is only 24.5g this will clear without needing a forced regeneration simply by driving it for a long enough and fast enough for a normal regeneration to clear the soot. I think your resticted performance is not DPF related. Do long enough drive to regen the DPF and don't rev above 2500rpm and see if it behaves. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Well that will be a relief and I will find the best flattish route to try that. Your help is greatly appreciated.
Cheers

Red restrictive performance

Hi JayGee

Well you were absolutely right that I could use the RR at that soot level and let the car do a normal burn. From home I had a 8 mile run on the A38 on to the M5 and 10 miles at 60 mph to the next junction, job done. Using the IID gap tool and mobile app enabled the whole process to be monitored and confirmed. I will be checking the soot levels in future and that’s for sure.

Saved from attempting a “ forced regeneration “ and it’s thanks to everyone for your help.

Many thanks

Geat you fixed the DPF issue but you may still have another fault that is causing the restricted performance warning. As Jimmie says scan the pending errors ( enable in the advanced section of the fault scan window) and try to see if it happens when you rev past 2500rpm as this is the point were the 2nd turbo is activated and where control valve / solenoid problems can occor on these cars. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

OK JayGee, I hear what you say and I will check that out as you recommend. I do know that I should drain the oil from the 2nd turbo which will be due: awkward to get to the drain plug as you know.

Thanks again Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

No need to drain the oil from the 2nd sump although some like to do it to get the last few drops out. Just reving it above 2500rpm should burn off the oil acumulated in the intake and exhust side ( noything to do with the sump) and then you will be clear of it for a while until it builds up (or not if you regularly go over 2500rpm) 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Red restricted performance

Hi JayGee
Well I have learned more this week than during 7 years oner ship!
I have just used the gap tool to use the faults menu as suggested and after clearing faults for drivers and passenger doors/ mirrors l was left only with the rear n/s brake & indicator faults. As I said these are working when checked and fortunately nothing pending was showing.

Really appreciate your help here and good to know also that the 2nd turbo oil drain issue is really one that the car actually can take of its self. I had assumed that such smoke was all ways down to the PDF being full.

I am sure anyone reading these comments above will have learned something as well.

Again many thanks to JayGee and everyone who contributed. Bow down Bow down Bow down

I'm just passing on collective knowledge so can't take any unique ownership of the advice. There is another cause of the smoke which is a leaky valve in the oil filter housing that's used to drain the oil off when unscrewing it. Minesmokes a lot less now it's been fixed. Do a search for the problem and solution as it's been covered extensivley. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Will do and I realise that I'm not finished yet as I didn't do the 2500 rpm part for the advanced fault listing. I will get there it's just a matter of time. Rolling with laughter

I shall see if I can do that this evening when the roads should be clearer somewhat and hope I am still without something pending.

thanks again.

I have been around the block and pushed the 2500 rpm boundary to produce smoke and the red restrictive performance reappeared. The pending issue routine produced the following code and description: P006A 00 (64) Manifold absolute pressure - mass or volume air flow correlation

I have just cleaned the two maf sensors running from the air filters plus the maf sensor sat in the donut at the top of the engine. This appeared to be clean but not 100% certain the the small slots in it were clear so used a toothpick and the req'd spray-can to be certain.

Not good news no doubt but we now have a lead as to poss. cause. Obviously your comments would be welcome. I can't see any soot build up around the throttle body pipe or the four rubber tubes that feed the donut but it may just be a recent issue. I did have new ancillary belts fitted the other week and wonder if other pipes could be part of it? Hopefully not a red herring this??

Sorry to be a pain.

Cheers

Might be worth getting a smoke test done to check for intake leaks.

Download the workshop manual from teh WIKI section and you can cross reference the fault code with the correct procedure and part's that need looking at. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)
