Good morning everyone I have searched the forum for the answer to my question with no luck,
I have just been given a solar panel trickle charger via the obd port, are there any bad points for leaving the panel plugged in whilst the RR isn't in use? Since we don't use it every day I thought it might be worth just leaving it plugged in until it does get used.

No reason at all why you can’t leave in plugged in whilst you are not using the car, l have a 10W panel plugged in permanently unless using the car. Any panel with an output greater than 10W really needs a controller.

Is there any reason specific reason why you are using a charger via the OBD as opposed to the cigar lighter? I have a cigar lighter solar charger and before I use it just wanted to check if this will cause any issues?

I would think the cig lighter is the better way to go, to avoid wear & tear on the more delicate OBD port, which isn’t really designed for daily use, and being in a more inaccessible position, is much more likely to have pins bent etc when plugging in. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

I wired mine to the main 12v terminal on fuse box in the boot, past the cables through the louvers next to the parcel shelf and stuck the panel to the window with a few suction pads - seems to work well enough even though the window is tinted

Thank you for all your reply’s, the reason for using the obs port is because that’s what is attached to the end of the wire lol, it’s not an interchangeable one, I was given it by someone who’s partner passed away.
I didn’t think I could charge the battery via the cigarette lighter in the “arm rest” because when I turn the ignition off the cigarette lighter shuts down and doesn’t carry on charging my phone so I thought it wouldn’t accept a charge going through it to the battery
