Steering wheel locks

Just buying an immaculate looking but high mileage Auto.
Thieves won't know its mileage of course and I don't want it nicked so, along with the usual key security, I am thinking of getting a steering wheel lock.

Obviously the l405 wheel has those buttons/key pads either side and the flappy paddles.
What's the best steering wheel lock so I don't knacker the leather but also don't have the car stolen.

Thanks

The trouble being Stan is most of these Steering locks can be cut with an electric angle grinder in 10 seconds. Some might be better perhaps and then also it's another visual deterrent. overfinch modified

I use a Disklock as it covers the entire wheel so chopping off a section of the steering wheel rim isnt an option, it'll hopefully withstand a grinder for long enough or be a deterrent to go to a RR without one. First time FFRR owner

I would have thought the most secure would be the peddle boxes, but I like having a visual deterrent.

Get a Ghost 2 from autowatch just use the installers they recommend! Insist on Engine immobilised not gearbox.

Thumbs Up for visual- I use a Stop lok pro

Turn off keyless immediately if its 2018 and over then check the security recall has been done.

AutoWatch have updated their guidance to installers for Land Rovers. There's a prescribed set of installation locations and install method they will warrant. The Ghost will first immobilise the gearbox and then immobilise the engine - I.e. the car will start but immediately stall when moved into a gear, and then will not restart at all. I would recommend editing the car's CCD to enable 'parking brake engine stall apply'.

Of course a visual deterrent is also very beneficial, a steering wheel lock being the most practical.

Turn off keyless entry regardless of model year. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

Ever so slightly OT, (in famous Gremlin tradition Twisted Evil ), but can anyone say which if any Insurers give any meaningful discount for these devices, and give examples? Otherwise, they are only costing us money and benefitting the insurers?

I can see the obvious benefit of a visual deterrent, the various trackers etc, unfortunately mean your car has already gone. I lost a car years ago from outside the house, and the Police said to me at the time, well, really what use is a tracker, would you really want it back anyway? I realised what that meant when it was recovered after being ragged all over town in Police pursuits, all 4 wheels bust, suspension bust, sump holed, exhaust buckled, etc, etc. Unbelievably, the insurance folks DIDN’T write it off, but it was “repaired” by the MD, but the car never drove the same, and I traded it in within weeks of getting it back about 3 months later. Similar feeling to the period living in your house after a burglary, it takes years to shake off the paranoia, and unease, horrible.

ANYTHING you can do to stop it happening in the first place is best policy.

Is deadlocking & poison gas allowed? Twisted Evil â€śIf it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” -where’s the fun in that?

Your last point sort of answers your first - a system like Ghost helps prevent the car being stolen in the first place, so it's not really about discount on insurance (however i totally agree the insurance companies need to do more to sufficiently recognise risk reducing solutions customers have invested in).

It is however, not a visual deterrent, and the age old security lighting, CCTV, bollard, steering wheel lock recommendations are all effective at shifting most would-be thieves onto an easier target - they know they could steal it if they wanted to, but the risk of being caught is significantly raised, either from identifying them or from the extra time or noise it would take to get such vehicle. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8

Strange isn't it Ghost is not recognised by the insurers but trackers with imobilisers are. overfinch modified
