United Kingdom 2013 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Barolo Black

I spoke to somebody today who confirmed it is software only but the can bus system is hard to tap into and change ?!?

It would make sense as to be honest, if it can close by the fob, it should really be perfectly capable of opening by the fob as the physical connections are obviously there. This raises the question of.... Did Land Rover simply 'limit' the capability of the earlier models so that when they were no longer 'new and highly desired' they simply unlock some capabilities in later models without an 're-development costs or new production changes' to make the 'desire' for the latest model higher?

He also by the way said the perpendicular parking feature is the same, the only difference is software not physical hardware ?

Disagree...Mines a 2014 AB and the top and bottom indeed Both open with a press of the key fob

Late to the party on this thread - but I'll chip in and say I'm in same boat as horse86 - On my 2014AB If I use the remote then both upper and lower tailgates will open. Dash button only opens the top. Current

Does anybody know if this is just software related or is it hardware? I can not see any difference in the hardware specs from 2013 to 2018 for the tailgate and a few others I have spoken to seem to think it is software only. Will have to get to the bottom of this as it driving me nuts thin king about it !!! CURRENT :

Interesting. On my 13MY the key fob only opens top tailgate 😫

Do you press the button once or keep it pressed?

My understanding is the canbus language is older on early cars and a canbus message to open both tailgates from the key was never produced…

There is tonnes of parts that won’t work between model ages, even though the parts physically look the same. They won’t work with the data/canbus messages between ages… Steering wheel buttons for an example, or HVAC panels. Look the same from 13MY - 17MY but are canbus locked to MY’s
