VERY STRANGE!!!!!

hey guys..

was driving along and my head unit started to go black and then back to normal several times.

after about 5 minutes it returned to normal.

went home left the car and came back about 5 hours later started the car and the head unit is working but its very strange..

what i mean by this is that its a different color and most of the options such as off road navigation and television are not there. even the on board computer is not working properly and is in a different font..

and the worst thing is that when i don't turn the main lights on the screen is a very ugly brown..

now that i could handle until i know what to do but just now a sudden loud alarm type noise came from the right hand side of the driver side... pulled over put my hand down the small compartment near the driver right knee and found a scart cable cover which i only pulled off and then on again and the noise disappeared.

are these two problems linked..

can any one help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thank you

the lcd screen on the range does fail sometimes and what you describe could be the start of that or something as simple as a loose connection...pics of the 'strange 'screen might help.

if its been raining hard where you are its possible that the alarm sound/screen fail could be due to water ingress in the electrics?..check for water in the rear near side cubby ..

the scart cover is the obd port used for diagnostics, could be a coincidence that when you fiddled with that the alarm went off....

The front parking sensor buzzer is in the drivers foot well on all pr 06MY L322's. The alarm sound will probably originate from there as there is nothing else that produces noise in that area.

When MY MKIII Sat Nav died due to water ingress this was the symptoms I got. I think the water ingress could well be damage from condensation rather than water leaking in.. it doesn't take much to screw up the circuitry. The caboin air evacuates the vehicle in the same rear compartment hence there is nothing stopping cold moist air being drawn in the condense on the hot units... and as this happens when the car is stationary then the air con won't be on to help. Just my opinion.

You will also most likely have lost the DSP option to. I'd suggest that a new / replacement MK Sat nav with the DVD would be the best solution. You will have all the missing options back then.

That Scart socket is infact a OBD socket but does look similar.. not a clue why it should buzz. 2010 Disco XS TDV6, 2009 Freelander 2 GS

The problem is definately with your sat nav computer - The blue screen you are seeing comes from the tv tuner and it "takes over" when the main nav computer is not working or functioning correctly.

Check the cables to the nav computer - you could try disconnecting them both and reconnecting which should reboot the nav which may solve it if not then sourcing a replacement from eBay would be your best bet and an ideal time to upgrade to a BMW DVD based unit Thumbs Up
