I have a variation on this solution, also based on aluminium sheet. Power is provided from the fuse board behind the glove box, through the upper glove box. The cable tucks away into the upper glover box when not needed.

The mag charger for the phone is also sheet aluminium covered in 'sticky-back-plastic' and wired in to the back of the usb connector in the centre consul.

Looking to replicate your phone mount in my vehicle; how did you get it to securely mount in that slot to the right of the head unit?

Hi,

I have something sort of similar, I use a 9" tablet with a magnetic mount to a screen sucker.

When the pad is fitted it doesn't bounce at all and the mounting arm is telescopic and swivels so you can bring it closer for comfor, like watching a movie.

I keep it back as I don't want to obstruct the vents and pull forward as required. I've not noticed it impair road vision at all, but I have the seat quite high.

The power lead / media cable is long enough that when not in use it lays atop the steering column. In use the cables quite hidden as my phone attached to the maj mount in the lower right corner of the pic. One of these days I'll re-route it so it comes in from the windscrren side.






In the bottom picture you can see what it looks like from the outside.

Reason I went with this way ant the mag mount is I can quickly just grab it when parking up and stuff it under the seat out of sight without attracting any attention.

Nice! How is it attached / standing? Do you have a picture from behind? I’d quite like to do the same with an iPad mini.

The best retrofit by far imo. Though I do wonder why so many want a big screen in the car. I use Google maps on my phone, stream music via bt to the aux input and the phone connects via a 2010 L322 bt module in the boot. What more would I gain from a similar retrofit? And how would I get this look? Thanks! Des

I use the same setup as you at the moment, but I have a spare iPad mini kicking around and it would be nice to have a bigger screen on the dash for obd apps, bigger maps, etc so I may as well use it. But I like this retrofit. Curious to know what it’s leaning against.

Hi Roaming range.
There is a bracket behind which attaches to the screen. I meant no big visible bracket thing at the front of the dash.
I’ve moved on from this now and have taken the central vents out ( they are not missed) and set the device in the recess. You can get power from running a lead under the dash top and down to the fusebox. I made a little panel to block out the rest of the vent hole. A picture attached. I think this looks even better.
Dear Rogue Ranger. Everyone to their own! The main reason is I find it difficult to see SatNav on the phone and also control of Spotify etc music. I think the law now is that you can’t touch your phone even if for music/satnav etc

I get what you’re saying about Google maps. My phone holder has an arm which brings it from the drivers side air vent up near the steering wheel where it’s quite visible. And my phone voice activates music. I still love your installation; it looks like an oem upgrade. Well done you! Des

Not quite true, the above only applies when the phone is hand held.
You can operate your phone whilst driving as long as it is fixed into or onto a suitable mount.
Whether you wish to or not is another matter.

I thought that you can only use a fixed/clamped phone hands free ie voice control or bluetooth. I have always assumed that but maybe I’m wrong.
Having said that even using my screen, I wouldn’t scroll through music when doing 70mph on the M25!

Hi again,

I have had my car for just under 2 years and have had it serviced once. There haven’t been any problems in this time. I used Landmark to service the car and change all the oils. They are very reasonable but operate from very basic surroundings that might not be to everyone’s taste. Difficult to judge as I haven’t had a problem yet! Sssssssssssssh.They are based between Canterbury and Ashford.
The other place that has been recommended is at VW Victoria in Broadstairs. As the name implies they are VW specialists but they apparently have a top notch Land Rover bloke there.
