Hi team

I am doing my rear pads today, rotors are ok so hadn't planned to take them off... but maybe I shoudll because I am getting handbrake fault messages more and more.

Had a bit of a search around, can't see a typical thing to look for.

Any tips?

Only takes a small amount of extra effort to back off the handbrake shoes adjuster and remove the locating screw to remove the brakes discs (rotors??) and inspect inside, often the shoe retaining pins / springs / pivots are in poor condition and may need cleaning or replacing.

If the adjuster doesn’t back the shoes off relatively easily and/or the brake discs put up a fight when trying to remove them (e.g. they’re heavily lipped) that likely indicates an issue that you’d need to deal with anyway  Jonathan

As JCW says, it’s worth the extra effort to whip the discs off and check the handbrake, the retaining pins and clips have a habit of rusting so a good clean up and some carefully applied grease should sort it out.

Before the storm hit I got the new Greenstuff pads on, big tick. The wear sensor is a bit of a pain but it's too.

Onto the handbrake:

With the rotor (disc) off I found the shoes assembly especially on the Offside was very rigid so I cleaned up the area, carefully applied grease to the moving bits and reassembled.

The handbrake is no better, maybe worse now. It goes on fine, the error occurs on trying to release.

Interestingly, U2002-92 points to the switch
The manual confirms is the switch in the cabin

Anyone know easiest way to get the switch out of the console?

I must admit I'm a bit skeptical because the handbrake actives fine and I can hear a zippy sound from the rear every time. It's faulting on release of the EPB

If I'd spilt a coffee I'd tend to agree with the workshop manual but no drinks have escaped any time.

Anyone have experience of this?

day before MOT:

behaving, behaving behaving

morning before 9am MOT: faulting again

Then

MOT passed!

PHEW

Replacement switch arrived yesterday, to try next but I need to roll the MOT dice first as I had a booking.

Any tips on how to get the switch out? Cheers, Greg
