Recently bought a 2016my L405 Autobiography fitted with Churchill (formerly Jingho) Chinese 275/40/22 on the 'turbine' wheels.

Now, never had a problem with budget tyres on anything. But then I don't really partake in traffic light Grand Prix. If anything I've found cheap tyres to last longer.

Anyway, was going to replace the Churchill tyres with my brand of choice Toyo, but I think I'll wear them out first, there's nothing wrong with them. So, onto my next point, has anyone changed from 275/40/22 to 285/35/22? The wider tyres seem to be cheaper (for Toyo) and the rolling diameter seems to be near enough identical. I also feel the wider tyres might protect the wheel rim a bit more?

Any thoughts?

I've also done that many times as well. I've driven hundreds of thousands of miles on 'budget' tyres.

There is no massive difference between a Landsail and a Michelin except the price.

It's the tyre version of the supermarket fuel argument.

Hi,

I wouldn't put a Pirelli anywhere near any car I own, I simply don't understand why people rate them or why Landrover recommend them.

I've had their all seasons on before and took them off right away, like driving on under inflated tyres and shockingly bad wet roadholding and braking performance. All my P38s had them and just scary rubbish, ditch magnets. 2 brand new had to be junked because the garage couldn't get them to seal to my rims due to manufacturing defects.

Zeros I had previously on my Audi went sawtooth on me, had to replace the entire set after 9000 miles. Unused spare had cracking.

Pirelli haven't produced a decent tyre since the CN36 Cinturato and the original P7s on my Fiat Mirafiori Sport.

They even have a P7 Sport bicycle tyre, talk about playing off your heretage years.

People that pay over the odds for preceived quality need looking at, you're handing over good money to numpties who are on commission.

Your money, more landfill.

>30k on my Verde's and still 4.5mm tread on them when I checked. Never felt anything other than fully confident under a lot of conditions inc a bit of snow. Woukd never buy cheap tyres ( for any car) as have had bad experiences with them - frightening wet handling / braking , poor life to name just 2 issues. Good testing by people like Auto Bild show this time and time again. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Yeah, I used that. Which is why I can say the rolling diameter is about the same.

I don't forsee a problem but was wondering if I've missed anything obvious.

They are very close and width is only +5mm on each side so unlikley to rub. Are 275/40 22 stock size? 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

275/40 is stock size yes.
The 285/35 will likely fit without issue, but I fear that the lower sidewall height may be noticeable, both in terms of the ride quality (becoming harsher) and potentially the look as well. The smaller size may look like the arches aren’t filled and its baby tyres fitted.

I looked at sizes either side of the stock size and felt that going bigger does feel like it does dull the the acceleration ( based on fitting 255/60/20 tyres which are a size up from stock), and that going smaller would be harsh and I didn’t want it any harsher than existing. V8 or else ...
